The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 900 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.

About the position

We are currently seeking applicants for a 3-year Postdoctoral Fellow position (100%) in cardiac research. The successful candidate will examine sex differences and aging, with a focus on the female heart, fibrosis, hypertrophy, inflammation, estrogen receptor signaling and regulation, in cardiac tissue and cells from humans and animals. This position will be based at the Institute for Experimental Medical Research (IEMR) located at Oslo University Hospital and the University of Oslo.

The Institute for Experimental Medical Research (IEMR)

The Institute for Experimental Medical Research (IEMR) is an innovative and dynamic medical research environment that conducts research focused on understanding the molecular basis of cardiac disease and heart failure development. With approximately 60 employees and six research groups, our expertise spans molecular biology, physiology and cardiology. The project will be supervised by Senior Researcher Cathrine Rein Carlson, whose research team is involved in national and international collaborations and has access to cutting-edge research environments. The objective of the fellowship is to prepare researchers to assume higher academic roles within their respective fields. Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a PhD in life sciences, natural sciences or medicine, with a proven track record of cardiac research
  • Previous experience with molecular cardiology, viral transduction, cell transfections, animal models, immunoblotting, qPCR, cardiomyocyte isolation, microscopy, proteomics, single cell RNA-sequencing, bioinformatics, and/or human stem cells will be viewed as an asset
  • Willing to work with animal models
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
