About the position

A fixed-term position as Professor/Associate Professor in forest sciences with emphasis on forest management/silviculture is available at the Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, the Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management. The position is located at Evenstad, in the heartland of forestry in Norway. We do research based on collaboration with partners from the local to international level. Since 1912, we have educated undergraduates in forestry; from 2024, we offer a master’s program in Sustainable forest management. We do applied research on sustainable forest management, drawn on disciplines such as biology, ecology, engineering and social sciences, often multi-disciplinary. Our graduates are highly demanded by the forestry sector through their hands-on knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities and tasks 

The faculty’s research group in forestry is expanding and we therefore search for a person who is passionate about forest research and teaching and dissemination of his/her knowledge to larger audiences, has a proven track record in successful grant applications and will contribute to the social-scientific environment at our campus. Our department has a considerable track-record in scientific publications and research funding from industrial funds to research programmes at the national and EU level. The position holds the potential for extending the candidate’s research in desired directions, in collaboration with colleagues and partners within and outside campus.

Qualifications

Formal qualifications: 

  • You must qualify for the position of Professor/Associate Professor in the field of forest sciences in accordance with the Regulations on employment and promotion in teaching and research positions.
  • Emphasis is placed on knowledge of and experience with using student-active learning and assessment methods within relevant subject areas.
  • Good written and oral skills in a Scandinavian language and English.

Required qualifications:

  • Substantial scientific production within forest management / silviculture in boreal and temperate forest
  • Teaching and supervision experience at the BA, MA and PhD level
  • Experience in educational development of courses or programs
  • In-depth knowledge of forest management as carried out in the Nordic countries, including production and ecological aspects of various management systems
  • Proved track-record of successful research grant applications
  • Proved interest in dissemination of science to stakeholders and the public
  • Project leader and project coordinator experience
  • Experience with collaboration with multiple partners in projects 
  • Excellent collaboration skills

Pedagogical competence: Documented practical-pedagogical education and experience from teaching and supervision at university and college level, cf. Regulations on employment and promotion in teaching and research positions. Applicants who cannot document pedagogical competence upon employment are obliged to complete INN University's course in university college pedagogy or equivalent within two years from the date of appointment.

The candidate should be motived to

  • Do high-quality research related to forest management/silviculture
  • Teach and supervise students from the bachelor's to the PhD level
  • Disseminate research findings to the forestry sector and the public
  • Apply for project funding with colleagues and others 
  • Work with colleagues to further develop the social-scientific environment in collaboration

The assessment of which candidate is best qualified for the position is made after a comprehensive evaluation of education, experience and personal compatibility and other qualification requirements as formulated in the vacancy text, as well as motivation for the position.

If relevant: If we haven't received applicants who satisfy the competence requirements for permanent employment, a temporary appointment may be made for a maximum period of three years in a lower position, cf. the Universities and University Colleges Act §6-5.

The position and associated tasks must be carried out in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations for government employees, including also the Act on Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology, etc. Candidates who, after assessment of the application and attachments, come into conflict with the criteria in the latter act, will not be able to take up the position at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences. Necessary approvals must be maintained throughout the employment relationship.
