Veterinærinstituttet er et nasjonalt referanselaboratorium på over 30 områder og internasjonalt referanselaboratorium for Verdens dyrehelseorganisasjon (WOAH) på flere områder.


Veterinærinstituttet har rundt 330 ansatte som sammen skal løse vårt viktige samfunnsoppdrag fordelt i våre lokaler i Tromsø, Harstad, Trondheim, Bergen, Sandnes og på hovedkontoret på Ås i Viken.

The Research Group Chemistry and Toxinology counts 17 persons. The research group is active in biomedical research and development activities with a special emphasis on animal health, fish health and feed and food safety.We have a broad expertise, specialized in mycology and natural toxins (biotoxins) such as mycotoxins and toxins from marine and freshwater algae (phycotoxins), including their chemistry, organisms of origin, mode of action and ecological roles.

We are able to isolate, purify and chemically characterise almost any biomolecule from living organisms, develop quantitative assays for that molecule, study its biological effects and determine its biotransformation pathways in animals and humans.This position gives the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art instruments in relevant One Health-related topics that are developing rapidly. You will be part of a forward-looking and capable research group.

Main tasks

  • Instrumental organic analytical chemistry
  • Take responsibility for applying for relevant projects in the field
  • Communicate on both popular science and recognized scientific platforms

Qualification requirements

  • PhD in a chemical / biochemical / biomedical field with main focus on organic analytical chemistry
  • Practical knowledge of qualitative and quantitative instrumental analysis
  • Excellent knowledge and extensive practical experience in Liquid Chromatography High Resolution Mass Spectrometry including structure determination using fragment analysis spectrometry and advanced processing of mass spectrometry data
  • Experience in advanced method development, high work capacity and the ability to familiarise themselves with new issues and techniques.
  • Experience in writing research applications and leading of research projects

Preferable qualifications:

  • Knowledge of organic synthesis of derivatives and coupling of conjugates is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge in metabolomics and/or proteomics.
  • Understanding of NMR for structure determination is an advantage.
  • Insight and understanding of chemistry in a biological context is an advantage.
