PhD candidate in Scientific Computing and Numerical Analysis at Simula Research Laboratory

Job description:

In the Department for Scientific Computing and Numerical Analysis at Simula Research Laboratory, Oslo, Norway, we now have an opening for a PhD candidate to join the project "Data-driven Algorithms for Physical Simulations" (DataSim).

The goal of the DataSim project is to further develop the theoretical understanding, applications and software tools related to the hybrid models combining partial differential equations (PDE) with neural networks (NN). The topics to be investigated include for example

(i) stability of the learned models based on the chosen NN architecture and PDE discretization,

(ii) multilevel/one-shot training approaches,

(iii) applications of hybrid models in optimal control and links to physics-informed deep reinforcement learning or

(iv) using hybrid models to improve weather prediction models in partnership with the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.
