About The Faculty of Science and Technology

The Faculty of Science and Technology (REALTEK) develops research-based knowledge and educates civil engineers and lecturers needed to reach the UN's sustainability goals. We have approximately 150 employees, 70 PhD students and soon 1500 students. The education and research at REALTEK cover a broad spectrum of disciplines.

This includes data science, mechanics and process engineering, robotics, construction and architecture, industrial economics, environmental physics and renewable energy, geomatics, water and environmental engineering, applied mathematics as well as secondary school teacher education in natural sciences and use of natural resources such as in agriculture, forestry and aquaculture. The workplace is in Ås, 30 km from Oslo.

Postdoctoral research fellow within Theoretical Electrochemistry

About the position

A Postdoctoral position in theoretical electrochemistry is available at the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science and Technology .

The Postdoctoral position is for a period of 3 years.

Desired start date: 1 May 2025

Join the Theory of Electrochemical Systems group and study electrode-electrolyte interfaces and ion dynamics in porous electrodes using computational and analytical techniques. Other recent interests of the group include the thermoionic Seebeck effect and modeling of Faradaic reactions in porous electrodes. 

The main purpose of the Postdoctoral position is to qualify for work in high-level scientific positions. The successful candidate is expected to join our existing research milieu and contribute to its development. There will be rich networking opportunities with the group's international collaborators. Among others, we collaborate with an experimental group that conduct electrochemical testing of lab-built supercapacitor cells.   • Perform high-quality scientific research in theoretical electrochemistry and publish the outcome through relevant channels. 
  • Be a cooperative member of our research group.

Competence

Required qualifications

  • PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Materials Science, or a related field with a focus on theoretical electrochemistry and/or statistical mechanics.
  • Proficiency in both written and oral English 
  • Personal suitability and motivation for the position.

The following experiences and skills will be emphasized:

  • A deep understanding of statistical physics, thermodynamics, and electrodynamics
  • A track record of high-quality publications
  • Strong skills in mathematics and analytical derivations
  • Experience with numerical computations
  • Proficiency in scientific programming (Python, C++, Fortran, etc.)
  • Experience with electrochemistry is desired, but not essential

Personal qualities:

  • Good collaboration skills and an ability to join interdisciplinary academic communities
  • Good social and collaborative skills
  • Good communication skills.

Remuneration and further information

We offer:

  • Salary grade from 604.900 NOK to 657.300 NOK per annum depending on qualifications. The position follows ordinary meriting regulations.
  • Government pay scale position code 1352 Postdoctoral Fellow.

Formal regulations

The appointment is to be made in accordance with Regulations on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, Phd candidate, research assistant and specialist candidate and Regulations concerning the degrees of Philosophiae Doctor (PhD) at the Norwegian University of Life Science (NMBU).

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NMBU.
