About the position

A 3-year position as associate professor in wildlife ecology is available at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences www.inn.no. The Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management at campus Evenstad is a higher education institution with study programmes at bachelor, master and PhD-level.

ALB has a fast-growing research environment in applied ecology, with multi-disciplinary projects covering terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, management of natural resources, and human dimensions of ecosystem management.

The position will be associated with the research group LARGE (Large Animal Research Group Evenstad, www.innlarge.no). LARGE conducts scientific studies on large-bodied animals and their interactions with other species, including humans; assesses and evaluates management actions aimed at large-bodied species and related conflicts of interest; and synthesizes and disseminates scientific knowledge on large-bodied animals to management, stakeholders, the scientific community and the public. Examples of current projects are SKANDULV, GRENSEVILT, and CarniForeGraze. Most LARGE projects are in collaboration with other institutions worldwide.

We now seek for a highly motivated, wildlife ecologist who will join our research projects, help with research dissemination and apply for funding to widen existing projects or start new projects. The position will include teaching.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are required:

  • PhD and postdoc research in wildlife ecology, preferably with large-bodied terrestrial mammals, particularly large carnivores, across multiple ecosystems
  • Experience from research within the field of behavioural ecology and species interactions
  • Experience from analysis of animal movement data, preferably large datasets from GPS-collars
  • Peer-reviewed scientific publications in the field of ecology, preferably in high-ranking journals, as well as contributions to other scientific publications such as book chapters
  • Research dissemination to the public, specifically through website design, the use of social media, and the creation of outreach programs and materials
  • Experience and a track record of success with writing applications for scientific research funding
  • Successful collaborations with multiple partners and stakeholders, e.g., collaborations with a wide range of international institutions and organizations
  • Experience organizing large scientific conferences
  • Experience teaching university undergraduate and graduate level courses
  • Experience with field data collection, including capturing and handling large mammals
  • Documented practical-pedagogical education and experience, preferably aimed at higher education, cf. Regulations on employment and promotion in teaching and research positions. Applicants who cannot document pedagogical competence during employment are obliged to complete INN University's course in university college pedagogy or equivalent within two years from the date of appointment.
  • High proficiency in English language, both in written and oral
  • Good knowledge of working with statistical and database software, such as R, ArcGIS, Excel, and Access
