About the Research group

The Faculty of Health Sciences has a 3 years Postdoctoral Research Fellow available in the research area of cardiac cell biology. The position is attached to the Department of Clinical Medicine and Clinical Cardiovascular Research Group.

The Clinical Cardiovascular Research Group (CCRG) is currently focusing on advanced imaging of cardiac mitochondria quality control mechanisms. This encompasses studying fundamental molecular processes crucial for proper function of cardiac cells. To achieve this, the research group undertakes interdisciplinary research and has collaboration with research groups at the Faculty of Health Sciences and at other Faculties at UiT as well as international collaborations. Furthermore, CCRG is involved in research conducted at the large animal facility at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The scientific staff includes the PI (professor Truls Myrmel), several affiliated professors and associated professors, two PhD students and two technicians.

About the project

The position is affiliated with the research project VirtualStain- “Artificial intelligence solutions to virtually stain label-free cell and tissue images for studying cardiovascular diseases of fish and mammals”. VirtualStain is an interdisciplinary research project funded by UiT-The Artic University of Norway and involves research groups at three different Faculties. The overall aim of the project is modelling of fundamental processes related to disease development and progression in living cardiovascular tissue and cells through label-free imaging (photo and scanning acoustic microscopy, and label-free nanoscopy). The successful applicant will be working as an active member of the VirtualStain team and involved in close interdisciplinary collaborations with other PhDs, Postdocs and PIs from different fields such as artificial intelligence, nanoscopy and photo-acoustic imaging. The research field of this Postdoc position is in molecular cell biology with a particular focus on mitochondria quality control mechanisms in mammalian cardiac cells. The work will involve establishment of cardiac 3D cell cultures from human inducible pluripotent stem cells.
