A full-time associate professor position is available in Polymer Synthesis related to Life Sciences at the Department of Chemistry, Bio3-section for Chemical Life Sciences.

We are looking for a potential scientific leader with clear research visions, educational and administrative skills and abilities to establish and lead research projects of international standard.

The right candidate will play a key role in expanding chemical life science research and education at the University of Oslo. The candidate will be expected to establish and develop expertise bridging biochemistry, soft matter and physical chemistry, with a focus on organic polymer synthesis.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, polymers for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications such as targeted drug-delivery and tissue engineering, functional hydrogels and surfaces, functional (bio)polymers e.g. polysaccharides or glycopolymers, membranes, peptide/protein-based hybrid materials, biomimetics and sequence controlled polymers (e.g. foldamers and proteomimetics).

It is essential that the candidate will be able to complement and interact tightly with colleagues within the Bio3 section and the Department. In particular, a strong integration with the current activities within biochemistry and physical chemistry is expected in order to create a solid basis for research and teaching program within soft matter and bioinspired materials.

Qualification requirements

  • The successful candidate must have a PhD-degree within chemistry and documented qualifications within polymer synthesis or related fields (research and teaching). Examples include living/quasi-living polymerization techniques, “click” chemistry and bioconjugation.
  • The research focus must be related to the Life Sciences and complement current research within biochemistry, soft matter and physical chemistry at the Bio3-section
  • It is required that the candidate has international experience and is able to carry out high-quality research that includes international collaborations.
  • It is essential that the candidate has the ability and a proven track record of obtaining external research grants.
  • The candidate must be able to teach in Norwegian or in another Scandinavian language. Applicants who are not competent in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish must acquire such competence within two years subsequent to their appointment. Applicants who on appointment cannot provide documentary evidence of basic teaching competence must acquire such competence in the course of a period of two years.

Formal regulations

The successful candidate who at the time of appointment cannot document basic teaching qualifications will be required to obtain such qualifications within a two-year period.

The basis for assessment will be the scholarly production of the applicant, other qualifications, pedagogical or educational, the applicant’s qualifications within leadership and administration as well as the general personal suitability. In ranking the competent applicants, the full range of qualifications will be considered and explicitly assessed.
