About the position

The Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences, and Maritime Sciences has a vacancy for a position as Postdoctoral Fellow in drone space separation system based on machine learning algorithms from 1 February 2021.

The position is associated with the Department of Science and Industry Systems and reports to the Head of Department. The place of employment is Kongsberg.

About the position

The postdoc Position is associated with an European project, entitled U space Separation in Europe, funded by The EU horizon 2020 under the SESAR Joint Undertaking programme. The goal of the project is to delineate, develop and evaluate a concept of operations and a s set of enabling technologies aimed at insuring the safe separation of drones (from each other’s and from Manned aviation) in the U-space environment with a special focus on densely populated areas. The research goal aims to investigate how machine learning can be used to automate the separation management systems and might improve the Air Traffic Management though prediction of pre-tactical trajectories.

The candidate will adapt simulation environments to the design concepts selected. A core part of the job is to research and develop machine-learning algorithms to improve the separation management, including simulation execution, analysis of simulation results.

The appointment is for a term of two years.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Norwegian doctorate or equivalent education abroad in computer science, Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, robotics, drones, drones visualisations, or simulations. The applicant must have gained the degree within the application deadline.

Cooperation between staff members is an integrated part of the working atmosphere at the University of South-Eastern Norway. The candidate must be motivated and demonstrate a proven ability to work effectively within a team and in a collegiate manner to formulate and realize common objectives. Personal suitability for the position will be emphasized.

Salary

Postdoctoral fellow (postdoktor) (code 1352): NOK 555 800 – 694 400 a year, depending on seniority. In special cases, higher salary may be considered. A statutory contribution will be made from the employee’s salary to the state pension plan.
