Appointment to a position as Professor II requires that the applicant holds a primary position of at least 50 percent with an employer other than the University of Bergen.
Work tasks/research field:
The position is funded by the "Akademiaavtalen IV" - an agreement of collaboration between the University of Bergen and Equinor which provides funding for basic research. The successful applicant will contribute to the further development of the Coincidence Analysis (CNA) method for causal data analysis. Currently, CNA has four key limitations: (I) inability to process high-dimensional data due to combinatorial explosion, (II) reliance on error-prone data preprocessing, (III) demanding data quality requirements that are hard to meet in observational settings, and (IV) frequent production of too many equally fitting models. The position will involve leveraging AI techniques custom-built for processing high-dimensional, noisy data to help CNA overcome these limitations.
Significant research contributions equivalent to that of a professor.
Research competence in artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, statistics, or a related field with a focus on AI methods and/or causal data analysis.
Documented interest in causal data analysis and/or in the development or application of advanced AI techniques.
Strong theoretical knowledge and substantial practical experience in applying AI to complex, real-world datasets.
Expertise in one or more of the following is highly desirable:
Interest and ability to work in interdisciplinary research.
High proficiency in written and spoken English.
Solid track record of peer-reviewed publications.
Suitability for the position, including excellent cooperation and communication skills, and enthusiasm for the work.
An appointment as Associate Professor II may be considered in the absence of highly qualified applicants as Professor II.
We offer:
A professionally stimulating work environment.
The position is 20% of a full-time post. The current annual salary for a full-time position is NOK 967 000 before taxes for Professor II (code 1013) and NOK 757 600 before taxes for Associate Professor II (code 1011). A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
