The position is a fixed term position for a duration of three years, and the successful candidate will work under the supervision of one of the Principal Investigators at the Hylleraas centre in Tromsø. Appointment to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow is mainly intended to provide qualification for work in top academic positions. It is a prerequisite that the applicant can carry out the project over the full course of the employment period. No person may hold more than one fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the same institution.
The workplace is at UiT in Tromsø. You must be able to start in the position within a reasonable time after receiving the offer.
The position's field of research
The Hylleraas Centre is a research centre with nodes in both Tromsø and Oslo and hosts a wide range of activities categorized over different research themes (RTs). The current position is connected to RT1, “Molecular Quantum Mechanics”, which concerns the development and implementation of novel quantum mechanics methods to molecules. In Tromsø, this theme is primarily represented by research concerning multiwavelet methods to describe electronic structure and molecular properties. Additionally, the position could be connected to RT3/4, “Matter field interactions” and RT0, “Hylleraas Software Platform.
In particular we are looking for a candidate who could take a leading role in implementing multiwavelet methods in our code (MRChem), and in particular in connection with recent developments for real-time simulations and correlated methods. This development will then be connected to the computation of molecular properties (RT3/4) with very high precision, and integrated in the Hylleraas Software Platform (RT0) to enable the scientific community at large to use MRChem as a tool, thus generating a significant impact both for the group and the candidate.

This position requires a Norwegian doctoral degree (PhD), or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognised as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in one of the following disciplines: theoretical/computational chemistry or physics, computational materials science, molecular physics, condensed matter physics, applied mathematics or another field closely related to RT1 in particular, but also to RT3/4 and RT0.
Additionally, one or more of the following qualifications will be considered positively.
Previous programming experience (C++, Python or Fortran are the most relevant languages).
Experience with modern coding workflow, and in particular revision control, and code testing.
Previous experience with method development in theoretical chemistry/physics or computational physics/materials science.
Documented experience of work as well as the ability to work in a team.
Fluency in English is required. Nordic applicants can document their capabilities by attaching their high school diploma.
In the assessment the main emphasis will be attached to the submitted works and the project proposal for the qualifying work. Emphasis shall also be attached to experience from popularization/dissemination and academic policy and administrative activity.
During the assessment emphasis will be put on the candidate’s motivation, potential for research, and personal suitability for the position.

Academic works, up to ten. The doctoral thesis is regarded as one work.
In order to achieve a targeted use of the postdoctoral position, and to strengthen the employee’s career development, a development plan must be available no later than three months after the appointment contract is signed. The development plan must be approved by the immediate leader with personnel responsibility.
If you're in the final stages of your PhD, you may still apply for the position, provided that you submit parts of your dissertation along with your application. This enables the evaluation committee to assess the quality and likelihood of completion by the desired employment date. You must include a statement from your supervisor or institution stating the expected completion date for your PhD degree. Documentation of your completed PhD degree must be submitted before commencement.

Assessment
The applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee's mandate is to undertake an assessment of the applicants' qualifications based on the written material presented by the applicants, and the detailed description draw up for the position. A copy of the assessment report will be sent to all applicants.
The applicants who are assessed as best qualified will be called to an interview. The interview should among other things, aim to clarify the applicant’s motivation and personal suitability for the position. A trial lecture may also be held.

The remuneration for Postdoctoral research fellow is in accordance with the State salary scale code 1352. A compulsory contribution of 2 % to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted.
