About the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at NMBU is the country's only veterinary professional education and provide expertise in veterinary medicine and veterinary public health. The Faculty educates veterinarians, animal nurses and doctoral students in Veterinary Science and researches in veterinary medicine and related biomedical fields. We have 500 students and 430 employees.

The faculty consists of the departments of Preclinical Sciences and Pathology, Paraclinical Sciences, Production Animal Clinical Sciences and Companion Animal Clinical Sciences. We also run the Animal Hospital, which is closely linked to our research and education, and receives patients from all over the country.

About the position

The Department of Companion Animal Clinical Science, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has a vacant permanent position as senior lecturer or alternatively a 100% temporary position as lecturer within veterinary anaesthesiology. The temporary position as lecturer is for one year.

The position is within the unit of anaesthesia which consists of a team of dedicated and positive veterinarians and technicians. Both large and small animals are a part of the varied elective and emergency caseload. Participation in an on-call service for out of hours anaesthesia is mandatory. Desired start date is May 1, 2025.

Main tasks

  • Anaesthesia service for small and large animals within the university teaching hospital.
  • Supervising resident and interns.
  • Clinical and lecture-based teaching of veterinary- and technician students.
  • Administrative work.
  • Participate in research, and preferable also initiate research.

Competence

Required Academic qualifications

  • Veterinary education and authorized as veterinarian in Norway when being employed
  • EBVS® European Veterinary Specialists in Anaesthesia and analgesia or Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia
  • Documented teaching competence. The successful candidate who at the time of appointment cannot document basic teaching qualifications, will be required to obtain such qualifications within a two-year period.
  • Competent in the Norwegian language at the level B2, or achieving this competence within three years after employment

The following experiences and skills are appreciated

  • Clinical experience in anaesthetising a variety of species
  • Research experience
  • Experience in supervision of residents

Required qualification for employment as lecturer

  • Veterinary education and authorized as veterinarian in Norway when being employed
  • Clinical experience in small and equine anaesthesia
  • Oral and written competence in a Scandinavian and English language

The following experiences and skills are appreciated

  • Having completed an internship in anaesthesia when starting in the position
  • Experience with emergency medicine

For both positions the following personal qualities are needed

  • Be dedicated and have the ability to work in a team
  • Be able to cope with a stressful and unpredictable working environment
  • Have a positive and solution-oriented attitude 

Remuneration and further information

The position as senior lecturer is placed in the government pay scale position code 1198 Førstelektor, salary grade 68-85 (NOK 667.700 - 996.000) depending on qualifications. Seniority Promotion in position. 

The position as lecturer is placed in the government pay scale position code 1009 Universitetslektor, salary grade 54-82 (NOK 532.000 - 919.200) depending on qualifications. Seniority Promotion in position.
