A permanent position is available at the Department of Molecular Medicine, Division of Biochemistry for an Associate Professor of Medicine in the subject area of Biochemistry and molecular cell biology.

We are looking for candidates with an PhD and MD degree who will be expected to initiate and lead research, supervise PhD candidates, teach in the Medical School, set and assess exams, and carry out administrative duties. Teaching consists of formal lectures, group teaching and practical courses. Candidates must therefore document in their application, and demonstrate during the evaluation process, that they are qualified and motivated to teach. The Department of Molecular Medicine consists of 28 research groups across three divisions (Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology) and brings together wide expertise aiming to understand key biological and pathological processes from cellular to systems levels. The position is within the Division of Biochemistry, which counts 8 groups working on membrane trafficking, autophagy, cardiovascular biology, adipose biology, metabolism, chromatin and nuclear architecture. Qualification requirements

• PhD in molecular/cell biology and/or biochemistry and a degree in medicine (MD or equivalent)
• Strong research background in biochemistry, molecular or cellular biology
• Documented pedagogical skills and teaching experience in molecular/cell biology or biochemistry.
• Experience in supervision of PhD students
• Successful acquisition of extramural funding and project leadership as principal investigator
• Fluent oral and written communications in English
• Fluent oral communication skills in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish, or a plan for being proficient in Norwegian within 2 years of employment.

Eligibility

• The successful applicant must provide a research plan and outline plans for acquiring external funding. The research plan must include a description on how research will complement and synergize methodologically and/or thematically with research in the Division and the Department, in at least one of these areas: membrane trafficking, cell signaling, autophagy, metabolism, cardiovascular biology, adipose biology, chromatin or nuclear architecture.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create an attractive research environment will be emphasised. Active collaboration, also interdisciplinary and internationally is expected.

• A research plan of up to 3 pages, including how your work will integrate with existing research in the division of Biochemistry and department of Molecular medicine.
