The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.

About the position

The Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo, offers a full (100 %) time position as Professor (position code 1013) or Associate Professor (position code 1011) in Pathology, Department of Pathology, Division of Laboratory Medicine, Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo combined with a part time position as a (20%) senior consultant position at the Department of Pathology, Division of Laboratory Medicine, Oslo University Hospital.

More about the position

The Department aims to strengthen its position as Norway's leading research environment in Pathology by appointing a person that will front excellent research, participate in supervision and teach medical students. The Department of Pathology is currently organized in seven research groups that integrate university and hospital research activities. Current research topics are within cancer, immunopathology, inflammation and neurodegenerative diseases. The research groups have extensive collaborations with national and international investigators and opportunities to perform translational research are excellent, supported by state of-the-art core facilities.

According to the regulations at the Faculty of Medicine, the person appointed will lead and initiate research, supervise researchers, participate in teaching students and research fellows and undertake duties in connection with examinations, as well as undertaking administrative tasks as required by the prevailing regulations.

Qualification requirements and personal skills

  • The successful applicant is expected to strengthen the research activity in Pathology and to contribute actively to collaboration projects.
  • Applicants must hold an MD and has sufficient knowledge in clinical pathology to teach medical students.
  • The successful applicant should have a strong scientific background and ongoing research activity at a high international level in experimental pathology or pathology-related research.
  • She or he is expected to establish a competitive, dynamic and future-oriented research group that will attract PhD students and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Applicants should have the ability to create an attractive research environment and to establish national and international research networks.
  • A solid track record in obtaining external (including international) research funding is considered essential.
  • High ambitions for future research and a keen ability to develop the discipline towards novel scientifically-based high standards are expected.
  • A strong commitment to teaching of medical students is a requirement, and previous academic teaching experience is desirable.
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to create an attractive research environment will be emphasized.

Formal regulations

  • The full-time academic position and the part-time consultant position must be held jointly. It is a requirement that the successful candidate holds both positions.
  • Applicants, who at the time of appointment cannot provide documentary evidence of basic teaching competence, must acquire such competence in the course of a period of two years.
  • Applicants who are not competent in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish must acquire such competence within two years subsequent to their appointment, and must be competent in English in the interim period.
