Associate Professor in Mathematical Learning Difficulties

Deadline: 04.08.2023

Universitetet i Oslo

The University of Oslo is Norway’s oldest and highest ranked educational and research institution, with 28 000 students and 7000 employees. With its broad range of academic disciplines and internationally recognised research communities, UiO is an important contributor to society.

The Department of Special Needs Education is one of the three departments at The Faculty of Educational Sciences. The department focuses on basic and applied research and education of bachelor-, master- and doctoral level candidates within the field of special needs education in Norway, including the areas of language and speech pathology.

The department employs over 50 scientific staff in addition to about 20 administrative employees. The department has approximately 800 students distributed between bachelor- and master's degree studies in special needs education as well as PhD-studies.

Job description

The Department of Special Needs Education invites applicants for a permanent position as Associate Professor (position code 1011) in mathematical learning difficulties with relevance for special needs education. The position has a double affiliation with The Department of Special Needs Education (ISP; primary affiliation) and with The Centre for Research on Equality in Education – (CREATE; secondary affiliation). The hired candidate will have office in the premises of CREATE.

The Department of Special Needs Education offers a Bachelor’s degree in special needs education and five special education majors (speech and language therapy, hearing, language and communication, specific learning difficulties, psycho-social difficulties, and developmental disabilities) at the Master’s level, in addition to an international Master’s program. The department’s lab, Oslo Special Education and Learning Lab (Oslo SpeLL) offers an excellent possibility to incorporate research, innovation and student activities into a clinical context.

CREATE is a temporary interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway and the Faculty of Educational Sciences. CREATE aims to identify and intervene on barriers to achieving equality in education. The position is associated with CREATE’s research strand 2: “Intervening on the barriers to equality in education”. English is the working language at CREATE. The center will open in 2023 and is estimated to exist for a period of ten years. After this period, the hired candidate will have ISP as their sole affiliation.
