Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. A senior researcher positions is available in the Tumor-Host Biology group led by Tor Erik Rusten at the Institute for Cancer Research at Division for Cancer Medicine from Jan, 2019 for 3 years.

The organization and research focus

Rusten is heading the research group of Tumor-Host Biology at the Dept. of Molecular Cell Biology, Institute for Cancer Research, Oslo University Hospital, Norwegian Radium hospital. The group is one of 6 research groups of the newly established and interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence, CanCell, focused on finding novel mechanisms in cancer development that can be targeted in future cancer therapy. The lab is focusing on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms of how tumors develop and interact with the organism to cause cancer.

More about the position

The researcher will primarily work with mammalian (mouse and human) organoid systems to pursue how tumor cells interact with and impact the organism in the tumor microenvironment.

The project will involve organoid models, animal experiments (Zebrafish, mouse or Drosophila), advanced microscopy, cell biology, molecular and biochemical techniques (IP, Western Blots, pulldowns), cell culture techniques, flow cytometry and basic bioinformatic analysis. The work will be carried out in a highly collaborative team of researchers.

Qualification requirements

  • Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in molecular cell biology and/or genetics or equivalent.
  • Strong background in Cell Signaling, Cell Biology or Developmental biology.
  • Strong experience in using organoid or spheroid models for cell biology research.
  • Experience in cell biological studies of animals using genetics is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Developmental, Molecular and Cell Biology-associated techniques.
  • Solid experience in microscopy techniques and associated image quantification and statistics (Confocal, live imaging, superresolution).
  • Experience in student supervision and leadership skills is an advantage.
  • Good written and oral English skills.
  • Strong publication record in international, well-renowned journals.
  • Candidates should have qualifications matching the technologies that will be used in the project (see under job description).

Personal skills

  • As a senior researcher you are expected to be skilled at working in a team on a common project.
  • You are able to independently direct a subproject and supervise students.
