The institute is owned by the Ministry of Education and Research. Our activities are funded by Norwegian and international organisations like the Research Council of Norway and the EU, as well as public and private enterprises. NUPI is located in attractive premises in central Oslo.
About the position
The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) is looking for a researcher/senior researcher with a professional interest and background in the relationship between climate change other environmental factors and peace and security.
The primary objective of the project is to generate reliable, relevant, timely and actionable information and analysis on the relationship between climate change and other environmental crises and peace, security and development relating to specific countries and regions at risk. The project will also stimulate global networking among researchers and policymakers through a series of dialogues, and networking events.
Duration: This is a 1-year project-based position that will start and end in 2023. Depending on funding, the position may become a multi-year position.
Your role
Programme coordination: Assist the project leader with coordinating, planning and reporting, including budgeting and the financial management of the project and organising seminars and dialogue meetings with global partners and regional network members.
Research: Contribute to a series of fact sheets on countries and regions at risk, publish related blogs and opinion pieces, undertake and publish academic research and present at international seminars and conferences.
Your profile
For a senior researcher positions a PhD in a relevant subject, such as Environmental Studies, Sustainability Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Security Studies, International Relations, Political Science, etc.
For a researcher position, a Masters degree in a relevant subject, such as Environmental Studies, Sustainability Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Security Studies, International Relations, Political Science, etc.
Prior education, work experience and a publication record in the area of climate peace and security or related fields will be an added advantage.
Quantitative skills and experience with managing datasets will be an added advantage.
Very good oral presentation and writing skills in English, Norwegian and other relevant language skills will be an advantage.
Professional and service-oriented with the ability to promote collaboration in an international environment.
High work capacity and ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.
Social media presence and experience with social media campaigns.
This post is suitable for someone early in their career, but relevant experience and a thematic fit with the project will be an advantage.
