BI Norwegian Business School (BI) invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor at the Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship. There are 2 positions available. Early career candidates hired as Assistant Professors will go through a required tenure-track process based on set criteria for publications and teaching.
BI’s foundation is to be research-based, connected, and learning-oriented in order to both offer relevant programs for our students, and provide a motivating research environment for our faculty.
The Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at BI focuses on the academic fields of strategy, international business, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The Department is academically and practically relevant through high quality research and active collaboration with business and society. Key research topics include (but are not restricted to) business models, international strategy and organization, entrepreneurship, alliances, networks, acquisitions, health innovations, knowledge-based strategy, strategy processes, clusters and institutional frameworks, technological innovation, and digitalization. Teaching is based on cutting edge research, demonstrating practical relevance, and developing students’ academic competence and skills. The Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship has 58 faculty represented at all Campuses. 45% of the faculty are international, and the percentage of female faculty members is 45%.
Job description
The Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship wishes to expand its research-focused faculty at Campus Oslo. We are looking for candidates with strong research capabilities in topics related to our department. The ideal candidates should have ambitions to advance the field with publications in top international journals and demonstrate solid teaching skills.
Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor must document their abilities to publish high-quality research in leading journals within their fields. Applicants for the rank of Assistant Professor must document strong pipelines of high-quality research. It is expected that the person appointed has the ability and willingness to actively contribute to the department's academic community.
Our faculty is expected to provide teaching and supervision of a high academic and pedagogical quality as well as continuously develop their teaching skills, e.g. by making use of new technology, new ways of learning, case-based teaching, and new forms of assessment. The desirable candidates can take on teaching assignments across a wide range of study programs. It is desirable that candidates can contribute to BI's new flagship course “Doing Sustainable Business”, a capstone course delivered to all bachelor students in their final semester. We also deliver a wide range of executive courses. Executive teaching experience is desired for applicants of the Associate Professor position.
Qualification Requirements
A PhD in an academically relevant discipline (preference is given to strategy, international business, and entrepreneurship).
A demonstrated ability to publish in high-quality international academic journals.
Documented teaching experience or pedagogical development
Other assessment criteria
Visibility within the international and national academic community is desirable, for instance:
Papers in core international conferences, and well-recognized journals/outlets within the relevant discipline/area.
Visibility in the academic arena or other relevant arenas important for the discipline.
Language skills; Norwegian language skills count positively. Faculty appointments and promotions approved after 1. August 2025 will have Norwegian language requirements, as stated in the national regulations. All pedagogical and research positions must document language proficiency in Norwegian at minimum B2 level or be subject to acquiring the level within 3 years of the appointment.
Good communication skills
Previous experience with case-teaching and supervision is preferable
Industry experience is valued.
According to governmental provisions BI has decided on requirements concerning the educational qualifications of permanently employed academic staff. As a minimum such qualifications shall meet the learning outcome of BI ‘s pedagogical basic qualification courses, or equivalent, at all times. This specific competence may be obtained within two years after commencing the position.
