Akershus University Hospital is the largest acute hospital in Norway, and local and area hospital for close to 10% of the Norwegian population. We have a fast growing research environment in the field of medicine and health sciences. Akershus University Hospital aims for our work force to reflect our values of multi-disciplinarity, diversity and equality. We therefore seek a balance in the age and gender profile of our staff, and we are particularly interested in recruiting people from ethnic minorities.
The University of Oslo is Norway's oldest and highest rated institution of research and education with 28 000 students and 7000 employees. Its broad range of academic disciplines and internationally esteemed research communities make UiO an important contributor to society. The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1814 and is the oldest medical faculty in Norway. The Faculty is organized into three basic units and has approximately 1,500 employees and about 2000 students. The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute.
Postdoctoral Fellow in Immunology and Bioinformatics
A three-year postdoctoral position in immunology and bioinformatics is available at the Neuroimmunology Research Group at Akershus University Hospital. The position is financed by the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority and involves a collaborative project between Akershus University Hospital and the University of Oslo. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research of high scientific and clinical relevance.
We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join an ambitious project aimed at advancing our understanding of human immunoglobulin genes. The postdoc’s primary focus will be to develop computational pipelines to analyze immunoglobulin gene variation and its role in autoimmune disease, including multiple sclerosis. Although immunoglobulin genes are central to antibody structure and function, their extensive genetic variability remains underappreciated and has important implications for autoimmunity, infectious diseases, and vaccine development.
In addition, the postdoc will contribute to projects involving analysis of high-dimensional single-cell sequencing and multi-omics data. We foster an environment that values creative freedom and encourage postdocs to pursue innovative ideas and approaches. We also welcome applicants with a strong biology background and foundational programming skills who are eager to enhance their computational skills.
Key tasks may include:
Developing reproducible computational pipelines for immunoglobulin gene analyses
Analyzing long-read and short-read sequencing data (including Oxford Nanopore; advantageous)
Contributing to single-cell and multi-omics analysis workflows
Contributing to publications, software/documentation, and presentation of results
Requirements
PhD equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree
Programming skills (Python and/or R) and experience working in a Linux environment
Proficiency in written and spoken English
Strong problem-solving abilities and motivation
Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
Ability to travel between Akershus University Hospital (Lørenskog) and the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (Oslo)
Preferred qualifications
Experience with genetics, genomics, or immunoglobulin loci
Experience with Oxford Nanopore sequencing technologies
In the evaluation of applications, significant weight will be placed on the candidate's academic and personal qualifications relevant to successful completion of the project. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview.
We offer
Excellent working conditions
An exciting and stimulating academic environment
Salary according to Ahus regulations (postdoctoral fellow)
