The Department of Electrical Engineering has a Postdoctoral Fellow position vacant. The position is attached to the research group Electromechanical systems.
The position of Postdoctoral Fellow is a fixed term position for a period of two years. The main objective of the appointment as a post-doctoral research fellow is to qualify for work in senior academic position. No one may be appointed to more than one fixed term period as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the same institution.

The position’s affiliation
The position is affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology (IVT) at UiT Narvik, Department of Electrical Engineering (IET), research group on Electromechanical systems. The research activities of the group are aimed at power and energy systems, electronics and communications, as well as advanced control, and (coordinated) motion control of rotating systems. The position’s field of research/field of work
The position is related to an ongoing project on use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), specifically multirotors for shore-to-ship and ship-to-ship transportation of cargo. The field of research for the position is mathematical modelling and advanced control of multirotor UAVs in general, with a special focus on research problems related to landing and take-off on moveable platforms, as well as autonomous operation of multirotor UAVs with suspended cargo loads.
Qualification requirements
For appointment as Postdoctoral Fellow, the applicant requires:
- Norwegian doctoral degree in the subject area concerned or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognised as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree
When applying for a Postdoctoral Fellowship, the applicant shall submit a project proposal for the qualifying work. This proposal shall include a progress plan. It is required that the applicant will be able to complete the project during the period of appointment. The successful candidate should be enthusiastic and highly motivated and be willing to work both independently and with other researchers. Good oral and written English skills are important.
Further, applicants must be able to document teaching qualifications in the form of documented practical competence as a teacher, university-level teaching seminars, other teaching education or through having developed a teaching portfolio, refer to the website about teacher training courses.
We seek applicants with relevant competence within fields such as nonlinear systems and control theory, attitude parameterization and rotational control applications, as well as guidance, navigation and (coordinated) control of unmanned aerial vehicles. Candidates with a PhD in control engineering or similar are preferable.
Emphasis is attached to personal suitability.
Working conditions
The working hours shall primarily be utilised for research, research-related activities and research administration. The position will also include some academic duties such as teaching and supervision of bachelor and master students at the department.
The successful applicant must be willing to engage himself/herself in the ongoing development of his/her discipline and the university as a whole.
The remuneration for this position is in accordance with the State salary scale code 1352.
A compulsory contribution of 2 % to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted.
Assessment
The applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee’s mandate is to undertake an assessment of the applicants’ qualifications based on the written material presented by the applicants, and the detailed description drawn up for the position.
The applicants who are assessed as the best qualified will be called to an interview. The interview shall among other things aim to clarify the applicant’s personal suitability for the position. A trial lecture may also be held.
The Arctic University of Norway wishes to increase the proportion of females in research positions. In the event that two or more applicants are found to be approximately equally qualified, female applicants will be given priority.

- author(s), the work’s title
- for articles: the journal’s name and volume, the first and last page of the article, year of publication
- for publications: publisher, printer, year of publication, number of pages
- academic works: The applicant may submit up to ten works that are central to his/her production. The applicant’s doctoral thesis is regarded in this context as one work.
- In addition, the applicant shall provide a description of his/her production stating which works he/she considers the most important and which shall therefore be the main emphasis of the assessment. A brief description of the other listed works shall also be included to demonstrate depth of production.
All documentation has to be in English or a Scandinavian language.
