The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences have a vacancy for a position as PhD Research Fellow in the ethics of immersive technologies

About the position

The University of South-Eastern Norway’s Faculty of Health and Social Sciences has a vacancy for a full time position as PhD Research Fellow in the I-merse Research Group from August 2021.

The position is formally affiliated with the Department of Optometry, Radiography and Lighting Design. The place of employment is at the University’s Campus Kongsberg.

The employment period will be three years of full time with no teaching obligations, and there is a premise for employment that the PhD Research Fellow is enrolled in USN’s PhD program in Person-Centered Research within three months of accession in the position.

About the PhD-project

The vacant position will be part of the I-merse Research Group. It will be complementary to the Horizon 2020 project, Responsible Open Science in Europe, of which USN is a partner. The project’s objective is to explore, identify, and address the ethical and research integrity issues in the availability, use, and reuse of scientific data in immersive technology research in an OS environment. Specifically, it will a.) Provide an accurate description of the research ethics/research integrity (RE/RI) issues in the availability, use, and reuse of scientific data in immersive technology research in an OS environment; b) Explore how and if RE/RI instruments are sufficient to cope with the issues posed by immersive technology research in an OS environment; c) Provide recommendations to complement the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity for immersive technology research.

Qualifications

Applicants to the PhD position must have a Master’s degree or equivalent higher education qualifications in a relevant field with an average grade B or better from the Master degree. In addition a grade B or better of the final master project, is required. Background in Ethics and/or Immersive Technology will definitely be a plus. The applicant must have gained the degree within the application deadline. Applicants must have an excellent command of written and spoken English.

The candidate should have competency, willingness and interest in learning the relveant topics to the PhD project and associated areas such as knowledge of the principles and theories of research ethics, research integrity, open science, research methods and immersive technology research. In addition to formal qualifications, the candidate must have a personal motivation for research, ability to work independently and focused, ability to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.

Co-operation between staff members is an integrated part of the working atmosphere at the University of South-Eastern Norway. The candidate must be motivated and demonstrate a proven ability to work effectively within a team and in a collegiate manner to formulate and realise common objectives. Salary

PhD Research Fellow (code 1017): NOK 482 200 a year. Further promotion will be based on time served in the position.

A statutory contribution to the state pension plan will be deducted from the employee’s salary.

Other information

The Academic Appointments Board for PhD Research Fellowships is responsible for the appointment. An expert assessment of applicants will be carried out. The candidates deemed best qualified will be invited to an interview.
