Position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow available at the Department of Chemistry, University i Oslo.

Starting date no later than October 1, 2023.

The appointment is a fulltime position and is for a period of three years (10% of which is devoted to required duties, usually in the form of teaching activities).

No one can be appointed for more than one Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Oslo.

More about the position

We seek a highly motivated individual with a strong background in radiopharmaceutical chemistry or the radiopharmaceutical sciences with emphasis on preclinical characterization of radiopharmaceuticals and imaging.

The position will be a part of the convergence environment: Novel personalized management strategies for fibrosing diseases (FibroPET) with the aims to improve the course of the disease and treatment outcome of patients with fibrosing diseases. FibroPET aims to enhance the team with imaging-minded people who are interested in interdisciplinary, preclinical imaging within a new core facility composed around clinical investigators.

The project is situated between the Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry laboratory at the Department of Chemistry (headed by Prof. Riss, the main supervisor), the preclinical PET/MR laboratory at Institute for Experimental Medical Research (headed by Prof. Sjaastad) and the clinical PET center at Department of Nuclear Medicine (Prof. Revheim).

The announced position is part of the UiO Convergence Environment named ‘Novel personalized management strategies for fibrosing diseases (FibroPET)’ which is headed by Dr. Revheim.

Convergence environments are interdisciplinary research groups that will aim to solve grand challenges related to health and environment. They are funded by UiO's interdisciplinary strategic area UiO:Life Science, www.uio.no/life-science.

The overall purpose of the FibroPET convergence environment is to develop personalized management strategies including early identification, treatment, monitoring, patient dialogue and outcome assessment in patients with fibrosing diseases.

The successful candidate will become part of a new team of imaging people who like to use the new preclinical PET/MR scanner at OUS Rikshospitalet. The project also involves autoradiography imaging and histochemistry with human derived tissue samples.

The main purpose of a postdoctoral fellowship is to provide the candidates with enhanced skills to pursue a scientific top position within or beyond academia. To promote a strategic career path, all postdoctoral research fellows are required to submit a professional development plan no later than one month after commencement of the postdoctoral period.

Qualification requirements

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition to be among Europe’s leading communities for research, education and innovation. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

• Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in the chemical sciences. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Only applicants with an approved doctoral thesis and public defence are eligible for appointment
• The candidate should be motivated to learn to work in a convergence environment with main focus on development of radiotracers for molecular imaging with PET
• A FELASA certificate for experimentation involving laboratory animals is advantageous for the applicant
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English

No one can be appointed for more than one Postdoctoral Fellow period at the University of Oslo.

If an applicant has applied for and been granted funding for a fulltime research stay abroad while being employed as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, the employment will be prolonged with the equivalent time as the research stay, but for no longer than of twelve months ( thus extending the employment to a maximum of four years).
