The University of Oslo is Norway’s oldest and highest ranked educational and research institution, with 28 000 students and 7000 employees. With its broad range of academic disciplines and internationally recognised research communities, UiO is an important contributor to society.

The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences overall objective is to promote basic medical knowledge in order to understand normal processes, provide insight into mechanisms that cause illness, and promote good health. The Institute is responsible for teaching in basic medical sciences for the programmes of professional study in medicine and the Master's programme in clinical nutrition. The Institute has more than 300 employees and is located in Domus Medica.

Job description

A position as postdoctor is available at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo from 1.4.22. The position is associated with the research group of professor Heidi Kiil Blomhoff on the project “DNA damage responses regulated by the cAMP/PKA pathway; a toll for improved treatment of pediatric BCP-ALL”. The project is financed by Barnekreftforeningen for a period of three years.

More about the position

The postdoc will take part in a basic project with strong clinical implications. The aim of the project is to identify new targets for improved treatment of B cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BCP-ALL). A key feature of the project is modulation of the cAMP/PKA pathway in regulation of cellular processes such as DNA damage responses, oxidative stress, metabolism and autophagy. In addition to experiments on cell cultures of primary ALLs and ALL-derived cell lines, in vivo experiments on an established xenograft model of ALL in NSG mice will have a central role.

We are looking for candidates who have ample experience with cell culturing and assays related to DNA damage responses, metabolism, autophagy, and oxidative stress. It is essential that the candidate has experience with mice models and working in animal facilities.

The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines. A career development programme is designed for researchers at the beginning of their career at Faculty of Medicine. For more iformation see link.
