Job description

This full time (100%) postdoctoral position (3 years) is in the Oral Physiology and Cancer Research Group at the Institute of Oral Biology, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Oslo. The aim of this project is to study the tumor microenvironment in oral cancer. Various cellular and molecular biological techniques will be used to investigate the phenotypical and molecular effects of oral cancer-derived extracellular vesicles (from cell lines and patient samples) on local normal cells. Such studies are important in better understanding of tumor-host interaction. Knowledge of this kind will be valuable for future identification of patients at risk for oral cancer development, as well as for the development of treatment and follow up strategies. The candidate will work in an ambitious, and interdisciplinary setting.

The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

Qualification requirements

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in a field relevant to the research project.

• Strong background in cell and molecular biology, including cell culturing, molecular techniques involved in the analysis of mRNA, miRNA and proteins, and functional studies following modulation of gene expression.
• Strong practical and analytical skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Good social and collaborative skills.
• Ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary scientific environment.
• High drive for science.
• A good level of written and oral communication skills in English is required.

Other desired qualifications include:

• Experience with histological techniques and evaluation of histological sections, bioinformatics, proteomics, animal experiments.
