In addition to educating dentists and dental hygienists, the Faculty has Ph.D program and professional-oriented specialist education. The Faculty holds significant competence in the various research and clinical disciplines, with good interdisciplinary collaboration. It is a modern faculty with approximately 450 students and approximately 450 employees. The faculty is also Norway's largest dental clinic with approximately 55,000 patient visits a year. The Faculty of Dentistry has two departments: Institute of Clinical Dentistry and Department of Oral Biology.

Job description

This full time (100%) postdoctoral position (3 years) is at the Department of Endodontics at the Institute of Clinical Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Oslo.

The title of the project is The outcome of endodontic treatment: a retrospective study of cases performed in a University clinic.

The project aims to identify factors that are important for the outcome of endodontic treatment. Electronic lists of data on endodontic treatments and corresponding X-rays are available for approximately 9,000 cases processed at the Department of Endodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Oslo in the years from 2008 until today. The project has ethical approval (REK)

Your tasks:

  • Identify pre-per and post operative factors in tha database that may be important for the outcome of root canal treated teeth
  • Quantifty information in the X.-ray images such as root curvature, marginal bone hight and distance from root filling to apex using an open image processing program (Image J)
  • Analyse for associations between general diseases and the outcome of endodotic treatment

The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

Qualification requirements

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in a field relevant to the research project.

  • Applicants must hold a master degree and a Ph.D. degree, both preferably within Dentistry
  • Strong practical and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary scientific environment.
  • A good level of written and oral communication skills in English

Other desired qualifications include:

  • Experience with statistical methods and analysis
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in a Scandinavian language
