About The Faculty of Biosciences
The Faculty of Life Sciences (BIOVIT) aims to help shape the future food- and bio-production of through teaching and research within biology and sustainable production and use of plants, livestock and fish. The faculty has an annual turnover of approx. 250 million kroner. The faculty is organized into nine research sections: Genome biology, Breeding and Quantitative Genetics, Ruminant Nutrition and Physiology, Ethology and Animal Environment, Nutrition and Physiology, Agroecology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Protection and Food Crops, Pant Biology and Biotechnology. The faculty has seven large and small research centers and laboratories, including a center for outstanding innovation (CFI) - Foods of Norway. The faculty is responsible for bachelor's and master's degrees in Aquaculture, Biology, Animal Science and Plant science as well as English-language master's degrees in Agroecology, Plant Sciences, Feed Manufacturing Technology and Genome Sciences. The faculty is responsible for PhD degrees in animal science and plant science. The faculty currently has about 550 bachelor and master students and 90 PhD students. The Department of Plant Sciences, Faculty of Biosciences is seeking for a creative, talented and motivated Postdoctoral fellow with strong experience in plant molecular biology with biotic and abiotic tolerance/responses of crop plants.
About the position
The Department of Plant Sciences, Faculty of Biosciences at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has a vacant two-year Post-Doctoral position related to molecular mechanisms involve in abiotic and biotic stress tolerance of crop plants.
The selected candidate will work with ongoing project on tomato and strawberry crops and its optical based induced resistance/tolerance to biotic stress (powdery mildew-gray mold) abiotic stress (selective wavelengths of optical radiation).
Main tasks
The main tasks of the postdoc research fellow is to characterize the pathways involve in induced host resistance, polyphenol biosynthesis and its regulation by selective optical environment.
Identify possible molecular markers that can be used for marker assisted selection of crop plants in breeding.
Competence
Required Academic qualifications
Completed PhD within the area of biotic and abiotic stress responses of crop plants.
Experience in molecular biology (gene expression, gene silencing)
Bioinformatics knowledge for RNA Seq data analysis with programming languages
The following experiences and skills will be emphasized:
Experience with fungal phytopathogen and its interaction with plants, preferably powdery mildew and gray mold
HPLC/GC-MS
Microscopy
Ability to design and execute experiments with statistical data analysis
Ability to work independently with strong analytical, organizational, writing, and communication skills
You need to:
Be proficient in English, written and spoken
Have good collaborative skills

The position is placed in government pay scale position code 1352 Postdoctoral Fellow, wage framework 24 (salary grade 59-77) (NOK 523.200-741.300), depending on qualifications. Seniority Promotion in position.
