Job description
Applications are invited for two 3-year PhD positions in Biostatistics to work on an ERC-funded project at the Oslo Centre for Biostatistics and Epidemiology (OCBE), Department of Biostatistics, University of Oslo (UiO).
We are seeking two highly motivated PhD candidates to conduct research in the field of evidence synthesis. The projects will focus on the development of statistical methods for the synthesis of complex data.
About the research group
The new research group “Knowledge and Data Synthesis” is part of the Oslo Centre for Biostatistics and Epidemiology (OCBE). OCBE is one of Europe's most active biostatistics groups with currently ca 75 researchers. OCBE is internationally recognized, with interests spanning a broad range of areas - including statistical machine learning, high-dimensional data and big data, computationally intensive inference for complex models, causal inference and survival models, measurement uncertainty, and research for clinical trials and observational studies - and numerous collaborations with leading bio-medical research groups internationally and in Norway. OCBE is also a key partner of the Norwegian Centre for Knowledge-driven Machine Learning “Integreat”.
More about the position
Both positions are for 3 years with possibility of extension and are part of the ERC-funded project “KaLeIDO-CARE” that focuses on the development of a novel knowledge synthesis framework.
The selected candidates must take part in the Faculty’s approved PhD program.
The successful candidates are expected to start on 1st September 2026.
Qualification requirements and personal skills
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree or equivalent in a quantitative discipline such as statistics/biostatistics, data science, mathematics, physics or similar (with documented knowledge in statistics).
Master’s degree with an average grade of B or above.
Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
Programming skills in R, Python, or similar are essential.
Previous experience with meta-analysis is desirable but not essential.
Previous experience with analysis of medical data is desirable but not essential.
