ARENA Centre for European Studies is a research centre under the Faculty of Social Sciences. ARENA promotes theoretically oriented, empirically informed studies analysing the dynamics of the evolving European political order. The research at ARENA is multidisciplinary and is organised along four key dimensions: A European democratic order; the EU's executive order; expertise and knowledge in the EU; and European foreign and security policy. ARENA hosts several nationally and internationally funded research projects and is engaged in a series of international networks.
There may also be some intersecting tasks in other related projects such as “Norge og rommet: Strategisk posisjonering, alliert samarbeid og eksponering” (NSpace) and “Changing transatlantic security relations: Implications for Europe and Norway” (TransatDefence).
The position is for the duration of one year with no teaching obligations and has a possibility of prolongation if funding allows.
The proposed starting date for the Researcher position is as soon as possible and no later than 1 August 2026.
You will be provided with office space, equipment, and services as well as necessary resources for research related field work and conference travel.

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline within the social sciences before taking up the post (SKO 1109).
Applicants must be able to demonstrate an ability to conduct high quality research in European security and defence integration, including defence industrial integration and transatlantic relations.
Applicants must have experience with qualitative interviews.
ARENA’s working language is English. Fluent oral and written communication skills in English are therefore required.
A good command of either Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is also a requirement.
In assessing the candidates, particular emphasis will be placed on the quality and relevance of the submitted research publications and the article proposal.
