The Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture (FBA), Nord University, Norway, invites applications from outstanding candidates for a three-year PhD position in the ecology and population genetics of bilberry.
Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtilis) is a keystone species of the boreal forest ecosystem and an important food source for wildlife. Bilberry relies on unpredictable events for new individuals to become established. Seedlings can be found in for example cadaver decomposition islands following dispersal by omnivorous scavengers such as crows and foxes, but also on tree stumps following timber harvest. This project explores the effects of these rare events - under what circumstances do seedlings survive to adulthood, and how does this affect local population genetic structure and resilience?
The successful candidate will be part of the Ecology research division at FBA. The contract will be for a 3-year period. The position is to be located in Steinkjer, Central Norway. Candidates are subject to Nord University’s requirement for residency at the institution.
