About the position

The Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences has a vacant permanent fulltime position as Associate professor in Cyber Security available from 01.01.2021.

The position is at the Department of Science and Industry systems and reports to the Head of Department. The place of employment is Campus Kongsberg.

Kongsberg has the greatest density of engineers in Norway, delivering groundbreaking technologies in their chosen fields, and also has an advanced technology cluster with systems from the seabed to outer space.

The Department of Science and Industry systems runs multiple taught programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as research programs at prostgraduate level. The department has extensive cooperation with local high tech industries.

Responsibilities and duties

The successful applicant is expected to be actively engaged with research and teaching in the Cyber Security subject area, and developing their role in national and international networks. They will be expected to be actively undertaking research in their subject area, and to contribute to research leadership and guidance in strategic areas of the University's network of researchers.

You may be required to carry out teaching at all levels of the educational cycle within your department, and at other departments.

For the University, distance learning and e-learning are target areas, and the candidate must therefore be able to provide supervision and teaching via digital media.

Qualifications

The applicants for the position must have a PhD-degree (or equivalent) in Computer science or a closely related subject, and must demonstrate research activity within Cyber Security. The applicants must also have expertise in Object Oriented Software Development, preferably with the focus on Software development with at focus on Cyber Security.

Our education should be research-based, both in terms of teaching practice and content. We therefore want our teachers to have experience from, or have the motivation to focus on, the development of teaching practices and the interaction between education and research.

The candidate must have the ability to work independently and at the same time have the motivation to share knowledge and take part in team work. The candidate must be motivated and demonstrate a proven ability to work effectively within a team and in a collegiate manner to formulate and realise common objectives. Personal suitability for the position will be emphasised.

To be appointed as an Associate Professor (førsteamanuensis), applicants must hold a Norwegian doctorate within the relevant field, or an equivalent foreign doctoral degree approved as equivalent to a Norwegian doctorate;, or qualifications at the same level documented by research production of equivalent scope and quality.

The successful applicant should have a broad and solid background and research expertise in Cyber Security. He/she must be able to demonstrate expertise in one or more areas of research.

Applicants must be capable of fluent communication in both oral and written English. Applicants who can teach and supervise in a Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish or Danish) will be preferred. A successful applicant who, by the agreed date of commencement, cannot document capability in on of the Scandinavian languages is required to demonstrate and prove their capability with a pass at level B2 within three (3) years of employment.

Applicants must also document educational competence in line with the guidelines in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.

Requirements for documentation of educational competence

Teaching at the university shall be based on research, in terms of both teaching practice and content. As such, we aim to recruit teachers who have experience from and demonstrate the motivation to focus on the development of teaching practice and the interaction between teaching and research, in order to promote learning.

In accordance with the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research post, the University of South-Eastern Norway has established requirements that applicants for the posts of Associate Professor must be able to document skills in university and university college level pedagogy, subject didactics and digital competencies.

On this basis, it is assumed that applicants can document educational skills through successfully completed university-level educational programmes of study or equivalent courses with a minimum of 200 hours of work and that they have developed fundamental skills in planning, implementing, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision at a university or university college level.

Alternatively, documentation is required to demonstrate the candidate’s own practice as a teacher, academic supervisor and educational supervisor in higher education, combined with relevant educational programmes, courses and seminars and documentation of acquired basic skills in planning, implementing, evaluating and developing teaching and supervision.

For applicants assessed primarily on the basis of their practice, there is an experience requirement within teaching, academic and educational supervision that corresponds to a portion of a full-time position in higher education corresponding to two years.

Candidates who do not meet the requirements upon hiring are obliged to meet them within two years after being hired for the position. The two-year rule does not apply when applying for a promotion.

Salary

Associate professor (førsteamanuensis) (code 1011): NOK kr kr 597 000 – 768 500 a year. Salary grade according to seniority and competence. Statutory amounts for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted from salary.

Additional information

The appointing body is the appointments committee for teaching and research posts at the University of South-Eastern Norway. An expert committee will assess the applications.[1] Based on the committee’s recommendations, relevant applicants will be invited to an interview and a trial lecture.
