The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.

Lovisenberg Diaconal Sykehus AS (LDS) is a hospital for approximately 200,000 inhabitants in Oslo in the field of internal medicine and mental health care. Furthermore the hospital has extensive elective surgery activity with 9000 operations per year in the field of orthopaedic, ENT and General surgery. The hospital is owned by the diaconal foundations Diakonova and Diakonissehuset Lovisenberg, and has an operating agreement with South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority (HSØ RHF). Adjunct Professor/Associate Professor (20 %) in medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery) combined with Senior Consultant (LDS)

A permanent position as Senior Consultant (Orthopaedic Surgery) is available at Orthopaedic Department, Surgical Clinic, Lovisenberg Diaconal Hospital. The position is affiliated with a part time position as Adjunct Professor/Associate Professor (20 % position) in Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). It is required that the position holder attends to both positions. The professorship is externally funded by LDS for 5 years.

Orthopaedic department, LDS performs elective orthopaedic surgery with established priorities in prosthetic surgery and arthroscopic surgery. In addition to large volume of operations, the department has a clear research profile and more than 50% of superiors have a PhD. There is also continuous education of PhD candidates in cooperation with UiO or other university environments. Based on broad and interdisciplinary competence, as well as large volumes in the treatment of patients with frequently occurring Orthopaedic disorders, the department has good conditions for conducting teaching with high relevance and quality for medical students.

Over the past 15 years, the Orthopaedic Department has built up an internal quality database that provides unique opportunity for prospective monitoring of clinical and patient-reported treatment outcomes as well as adverse events and complications related to surgical treatment. Such established routines for systematic data collection and quality control provide good opportunities for patient-related clinical research. Researchers at the department have a close cooperation with the Research Department at Lovisenberg Diaconal Hospital and Department for Quality, Analysis and Research at the Surgical Clinic.

The Orthopaedic Department has established research collaborations with Orthopaedic environments both nationally and internationally and has initiated or participated in several clinical trials. Ongoing research has thematically emphasis on knee/hip prosthetic surgery as well as shoulder surgery.

Regarding the full-time clinical position at LDS:

Whoever is hired in the chief medical position must be an approved specialist in Orthopaedic surgery. In addition, the MD must document broad clinical expertise in prosthetic surgery (knee and/or hip surgery) or shoulder surgery. Research experience is also assumed in at least one of these disciplines. Good Norwegian knowledge and good oral and written communication skills are required. Personal suitability and cooperation characteristics will be emphasized.
