About the position

The Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences has a vacancy for a temporary position as Researcher in Applied Micro- and Nanosystems from 01.10.2020

The post relates to the Department of Microsystems, and the immediate superior is the Head of the Department. The main place of work is currently Campus Vestfold, Norway.

Responsibilities and duties

The position is made possible through a 3-year research project funded and in cooperation with MEMSCAP AS through a contract with the Research Council of Norway. MEMSCAP (www.memscap.com) is a manufacturer of leading pressure sensors and transducers for aerospace and medical applications with premises in Horten, and the candidate will work closely with this company under supervision by professors at USN.

The content of the research are within advanced thin film materials, assembly processes and reliability issues related to the development of a new technology platform based on advanced industrial MEMS foundry processed for manufacturing of silicon pressure sensors for aerospace applications. Special focus will be on metallization, precision soldering and methods for characterization of long-term reliability of small soldered hermetic seals.

The appointment is for a term of 3 years. The position does not include teaching duties.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Norwegian doctorate or equivalent education abroad in microsystems, microelectronics, nanotechnology, materials physics and chemistry or semiconductor physics. The applicant must have gained the degree within the application deadline.

Co-operation between staff members is an integrated part of the working atmosphere at the University of South-Eastern Norway. The candidate must be motivated and demonstrate a proven ability to work effectively within a team in a collegiate manner to formulate and realise common objectives.

Personal suitability for the position will be emphasized.

The following qualifications will be considered as a priority during evaluation process:

  • Knowledge of MEMS fabrication process as well as simulation and design of MEMS devices
  • Hands-on experience on microfabrication, such as silicon etching/thin film deposition (PVD, CVD) as well as characterization technique of nanomaterials and MEMS devices (i.e. SEM, XRD, AFM, 4-probe measurements)

Salary

Researcher (code 1109): LT 59-77 (NOK 523 200 – 741 300) per year. In special circumstances, higher salaries may be considered.

Salary grade according to seniority and competence. Statutory amounts for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted from salary.

The person appointed must comply with the laws, regulations and agreements that apply at any given time to the post.
