The Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences, and Maritime Sciences has a two year vacancy for a position as Researcher in Systems Engineering from 01.08.2022.

The position is attached to the Department of Science and Industry Systems and reports to the Head of Department. The place of employment is Kongsberg.

Our Systems Engineering research program is positioned towards the industry’s need to cope with disruptive technologies and innovation. Systems Engineering, systems architecting, digitalization, sustainability and human-centred design are key areas of focus for our research. We strive to create systems that are purposeful, and that create values for the company as well as for people, our society, and the environment. Our staff is internationally recognized, and nationally merited. We received the Quality in Higher Education Award in 2019 by the Norwegian Ministry of Education for our close collaboration with industry and we are starting up an industrial research school in complex systems in 2022.

Responsibilities and duties

The position is closely connected to the industry-driven R&D project : “Harvesting value from Big data and Digitalization through a Human Systems-Engineering Innovation Framework”, H-SEIF.

The partner companies, supplying complex systems in challenging markets, must increase the effectiveness of their engineering and innovation processes. Large-scale complex systems are hard for people to understand and visualize, especially before they are made. Such systems, though, have abundant related data from multiple sources, both operational (in-company) and contextual (public). In the project we create a collaborative framework enhancing effective systems development, specifically directed towards making data-supported early decisions.

As scientist in the project you will have a central position in the project together with the three other full-time employees (two PhD candidates and one more Postdoc), a number of Master’s students, and professors.

Appointment is for a period of one - two years.

Qualifications

Applicants to the position should have a Norwegian Master’s or Phd in Systems Engineering, Systems Architecture, Industrial Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Economics. candidates with a relevant engineering degree or equivalent higher education qualifications will be considered. Candidates with Industrial experience will count very favourable.

The candidate will work in a professional network of academics and industry experts. We search for a candidate motivated to share their knowledge and interact closely with our industrial and academic partners. Collaboration is an integrated part of the working atmosphere at the University of South-Eastern Norway. The candidate must be motivated and demonstrate a proven ability to work effectively within a team and in a collegiate manner to formulate and realise common objectives.

We are looking for a person with several of the following skills:

  • Master or Phd in systems Engineering, Multidisciplinary engineering, Engineering Manager, Project Manager, Software engineer, Industrial engineering, Civil engineering, or other relevant engineering, design, management, or data scientist discipline.
  • Systems perspective
  • Relevant work experience. Industrial experience will be valued as positive. This could be a position for an experienced industrial practitioner
  • Experience and/or ability and interest to operate in an industrial context
  • Topical knowledge related to at least one of the industrial partners
  • Open for travel to partners within Norway.
  • Good communication skills
  • Practical
  • Collaboration skills
  • Project manager skills
  • Self-driven

The candidate must have very good command of English and in one of the Scandinavian language.

The research area for the position can include technologies referred to in the Ministry's export control regulations, and the candidate must be eligible to obtain a security clearance.

Salary

Researcher (code 1108 or 1109): NOK 507 600 – 637 900/kr 583 500 – 776 900 a year, depending on seniority.

Higher salary may be offered to applicants with especially relevant experience.

A statutory contribution will be made from the employee’s salary to the state pension plan.

Salary grade according to seniority and competence. Statutory amounts for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted from salary.
