BI Norwegian Business School invites applications for the position of Head of Department (HoD) at the Department of Accounting and Operations Management. This is a fixed-term management role for four years. The HoD reports to the Provost for Academic Resources.

The HoD participates in the Provost’s management team, the President’s Academic Council, and serves on various committees and other strategic bodies. The role is central to implementing BI’s strategy at the departmental level and contributing to BI’s mission.

About the Department

The Department of Accounting and Operations Management is responsible for teaching and research in financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, and operations management across BI’s programs. Faculty publish in top accounting and operations management journals, run an active seminar series, and organize conferences. The department offers courses at the bachelor, masters, and executive level that attract a high number of students and maintains strong ties with industry and public institutions. The Department is responsible for several educational programs, including the Master in Accounting and Auditing and the Specialization in Accounting in BIs PhD program. The Department has employees at campuses in Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen, and Stavanger.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership, aligning departmental goals with BI’s institutional strategy.
  • Oversee academic, financial, and administrative operations within the department.
  • Lead faculty recruitment, resource allocation, and academic development across campuses.
  • Foster a high-quality research and teaching environment, ensuring a caring and supportive work culture, as well as compliance with BI’s quality standards and international accreditations.
  • Strengthen external relations with industry, public sector, and international academic partners.
  • Drive societal impact through research, education, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Setting ambitious goals for academic development and performance.
  • Building and developing a world-class faculty with strong research, teaching, and societal impact.
  • Enhancing programme quality, including evaluation and development in collaboration with Deans.
  • Promoting innovative teaching practices and student-centered learning design.
  • Increasing external research funding and initiating research centers aligned with BI’s strategy.

Qualifications

  • A scientific position, preferably as Professor, within relevant research areas such as accounting, auditing, or operations management.
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Experience in higher education leadership and team management is an advantage.
  • Commitment to collaboration, dialogue, and a positive work environment.
  • Excellent understanding of leadership in academia.
  • Strong communication and networking skills, internally and externally.
  • Ability to stimulate excellence and maintain a supportive, professional environment.

Terms and Application

The position follows BI’s standard terms for Heads of Department. Qualified applicants will be invited for interviews and may undergo a screening process with an external recruitment agency.
