About the position

A permanent 100% position is available at the University of Agder, Faculty of Engineering and Science, as Associate Professor in esports, at the Department of Information and Communication Technology. The position is located at Campus Grimstad. The starting date is as soon as possible or to be negotiated with the Faculty.

The Department of ICT has several active research groups in Information and Communication Technology including 12 Professors, 25 Associate Professors/ Assistant professors and about 30 Research Fellows on the PhD programme in ICT. The department pursues a variety of research interests, focusing especially on ICT and crisis management, Artificial Intelligence, eLearning, eHealth, and esports. The department has successfully led several large research projects funded by the Research Council of Norway, the EU research programmes FP7 and H2020 as well as national and international industries.

Responsibilities

Teaching and supervision on bachelor, master, and PhD level within the esports programmes and in continuing education. Research and development, publication, and external funding.

Required qualifications

A master’s degree and a PhD degree in a relevant area are required for this position as detailed in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.

A successful candidate must be able to show extensive research and experience within esports both theoretically and practically.

A successful applicant must be able to document relevant practical teaching competence based on education or teaching and supervision. Applicants who are unable to document such basic competence at the time of their appointment, will be required to obtain it within a period of two years, possibly by completing UiA’s basis course in university education as detailed in the Criteria for educational competence at UiA.

The working language at the University of Agder is Norwegian. The successful candidate must be proficient in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, both written and oral. State possible requirements concerning English or other languages. The University of Agder will facilitate the completion of courses in Norwegian. Permanently employed staff is expected to be proficient in Norwegian within three years.

Personal suitability, good teamwork skills, inventiveness, and a proactive approach will be emphasised in the evaluation as well as relevant practical experience. The associate professor will be expected to contribute to an active research community that promotes personal and professional growth. The position places great demands on the applicant’s capacity for independent goal-oriented work, ability to concentrate and attention to detail.

The position is remunerated according to the State Salary Scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1011 and code 1198 Associate Professor, NOK 660 000 -765 600 gross salary per year. Higher salary grades may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
