The Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Services has a vacant temporary position for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Electronic Packaging and Interconnections Technologies from 01.08.2019.

The appointment is for a term of 3 years.

University of South-Eastern Norway has about 18 000 students and about 1500 employees. The university is organized in four faculties, with instruction and R&D activities on eight campuses. The main profile of the university is to provide socially relevant education, geared towards specific professions, and adapted to the requirements of the workplace, as well as to produce applied research and development.

The position is at the Department of Microsystems and reports to the Head of Department. The place of employment is Campus Vestfold in Horten. The work will be in close collaboration with Integrated Detector Electronics AS in Oslo, and some work should be carried out at their site.

The Postdoctoral Fellow position is included in a project entitled "Advanced packaging for phonetics, optics and electronics for low cost manufacturing in Europe" with short name APPLAUSE, funded by the EU Horizon 2020 Programme and The research Council of Norway. In this project, USN participates in User Case 2: Low cost thermal imaging systems. The purpose of this this thermal IR user case is to develop a low-cost and high-performance thermal infrared sensor, with focus on hermetic wafer level packaging. The target is a camera capable for producing video-rate imagery with VGA resolution, and with factor 100 lower cost than state-of-the-art. The main fields of application for the camera are in thermography (Quality Assurance or Quality Control, HVAC&R), in transport (Automated surveillance, security and safety applications. USN's main task in this user case is mainly to develop wafer level packaging of the MEMS/CMOS sensitive device and packaging of the image sensor. USN will also contribute in other tasks in the project, for instance defining the requirements for the IR camera to be developed and to participate in characterization of developed prototypes.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Norwegian doctorate or equivalent education abroad in Micro- and Nanotechnologies or related fields with specific preference for applicants with an education experience focused on Electronic Packaging and Interconnection Technologies, Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MOEMS) or Microsensors. The applicant must have gained the degree before starting in the position.

Salary

Postdoctoral fellow postdoktor (code 1352): NOK 515 200 - 658 200 a year, depending og seniority. A statutory contribution will be made from the employee’s salary to the state pension plan.
