Stilling:

2 Postdoctoral positions in Emerging Exascale technology

Application deadline: 01 September 2018

Simula Research Laboratory AS

Simula Research Laboratory AS is a publicly owned research institute located at Fornebu outside of Oslo, Norway. Simula has a multi-cultural organization, employing about 150 individuals from 33 countries. Simula conducts Information and Communication Technology (ICT) research in the fields of communication technology, scientific computing and software engineering. Simula's main objective is to generate new understanding and create vital knowledge about fundamental scientific challenges that are of genuine value for society. This is achieved through high quality research, education of graduate students, industry collaboration, technology transfer, and commercialization. Since 2001, scientific evaluations conducted by the Research Council of Norway has repeatedly placed Simula at the forefront of international research in ICT. The most recent in-depth evaluation was recently published, grading all research groups at Simula as excellent.

Simula is an equal opportunity employer, and women are particularly encouraged to apply.

Candidates are invited to apply for 2 Postdoctoral positions in emerging Exascale technology at Simula Research Laboratory in Oslo, Norway. These positions will be funded by the NexaScale research project. As a Postdoctoral candidate you will work closely with our industry partner Numascale in developing a multi-port node controller concept, as an efficient technology to build scale-up (Exascale) servers. A large international company and the University of Oslo are also partners in the project.

The Postdoctoral positions last for 26 months.

Post. Doc. A

Dataflow in a cc-Numa system. We want to investigate the relationship between typical applications and the memory transaction patterns that will occur in a cache-coherent shared memory system with approximately 1000 CPU cores. The application types span from traditional scientific simulations of natural systems via big-data analytics to artificial intelligence. The programming models for the system will include traditional MPI and OpenMP. The goal is to be able to design a high-level model that has enough accuracy and yet the required performance to model the different internal resources in a large multi-ported coherent switch.

Post. Doc. B

We need to understand the different tradeoffs when selecting replacement algorithms for a snoop-filter organized as a cache memory in a large coherent switch. Several architectural innovations have been drafted to meet the requirements for the very high-performance switch. These innovations must be modelled on a sufficiently high level in order to quantify the effects of the different replacement algorithms with respect to the relevant applications. The programming models for the system will include traditional MPI and OpenMP.

Required skills

Computer architecture, programming experience (C, C++, Fortran, Java, Python), queueing theory. In addition to that, having strong English written and oral communication skills, and a good ability to cooperate with others and work independently on challenging problems.

Application requirements

Please include a short cover letter, curriculum vitae, copies of transcripts and grades, a publication list, and up to three references in your application.

The starting date is preferably no later than January 1, 2019.

Application deadline: 01.09.2018.

However, applications will be screened continuously and a decision will be made as soon as we find the right candidates.

According to the Norwegian Freedom and Information Act (Offentleglova), information about the applicant may be included in the public applicant list, also in cases where the applicant has requested non-disclosure
