The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) is a leading environment for research on international issues in areas of particular relevance to Norwegian foreign policy. NUPI is located in newly renovated and attractive premises in downtown Oslo. 

A position as Senior Researcher (SKO 1109) in international political economy and global governance is available at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI).

The position is initially for two years, but with the possibility of extension for a third year depending on funding. The position forms part of NUPI´s effort to strengthen research competence on political economy, including multilateral financial institutions, international economic law, and the role of public and private actors in global economic governance. 

The successful candidate will form part a research project funded by the Norwegian Research Council: Trade-offs of Blended Finance for Development, which focuses on the interaction between public and private actors in designing and implementing blended finance projects. 

We expect the successful candidate to form an integral part of the research project by conducting research and publishing in top academic journals, to engage in dissemination of research, and to initiate and collaborate with colleagues to develop and apply for funding for new research projects.

Assessment

Candidates will be assessed according to documented research competence as well as other key qualifications listed. Research at NUPI is highly collaborative, and ability to work in teams and personal suitability will be accorded weight. So will demonstrated ability and potential to develop new research projects. Particular emphasis will be given to scientific production of high quality, preferably on issues such as multilateral financial institutions, international economic law, and the role of public and private actors in global economic governance.

Qualifications and Selection 

  • Qualifications commensurate with an associate professor, including a PhD in a relevant field and a record of publications in international, peer reviewed journals
  • Demonstrable competence in using both qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Experience with developing, generating funding for, and implementing research projects 
  • Experience with outreach and popular-scientific dissemination of research
  • Ability to work to in teams with varied disciplinary backgrounds and nationalities
  • Very good oral presentation and writing skills in English. Norwegian and other relevant language skills will be an advantage
