About the Faculty of Landscape and Society (LANDSAM)

The Faculty has 1300 students and 180 staff. It consists of five sub-units, carrying out research and education in the fields of urban and regional planning, property management and law, landscape architecture, international environment and development studies, and public health.


The Department of Public Health Sciences works to strengthen knowledge of environmental and social factors that systematically affect individuals as well as populations, to improve public health and reduce social inequalities within health. We have extensive expertise in physical and psychosocial factors that affect health and quality of life, and factors that can promote health and prevent disease in society.

About the position

The Department of Public Health Sciences, Faculty of Landscape and Society at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has a vacant two-year postdoctoral fellow position (with a possible extension up to three years, provided extra funding) related to public health with a focus on global health promotion and dengue prevention in Myanmar.

The successful applicant will become part of the department’s academic staff with an interest in how to design, adapt, implement and evaluate health promotion interventions in a range of settings.

This position is connected to a research project entitled “School and community-based student-driven dengue vector control and monitoring in Myanmar: A cluster randomized controlled trial”. The short title is MY-SCHOOL. The project is funded by the Research Council of Norway for 2019-2022.

The long-term objective is to reduce dengue transmission and exposure to dengue risk factors in schools and communities in Myanmar. The project will also assess the impact of student-driven interventions on dengue incidence and entomological risk factors in schools and communities.

Main tasks

The role of the Post Doctoral Fellow is primarily related to scientific work associated with Work Package 3: Education, Social Science & Communication for Behavioral Impact (COMBI) in the project. This Work Package focuses on the development of knowledge, attitudes and practices surveys, and tools to measure empowerment and implementation fidelity.

Qualifications and skills

Academic qualifications:

Applicants must have a PhD degree, or have a PhD thesis accepted for defence when submitting the application. Appointment in the position is conditional on the candidate having successfully defended the PhD thesis. The thesis should be in the fields of public health, health promotion or in social sciences with a relevant topic for the specified projects.

The applicant must document expertise and interest in the areas of focus specified in the description of Work Package 3 and be able to work independently using advanced statistical methods and applications such as R, Stata and/or SPSS, Applicants must also have previous fieldwork experience in low- and middle-income countries, and be willing to travel overseas for fieldwork in connection with the research.

It is desirable that applicants have skills in dissemination of research findings, including scientific publications. Active participation in national and international networks, research projects and boards is of importance.

The successful candidate will join a transdisciplinary research group. It is therefore of high importance that the applicant has strong skills in cooperation and collaboration in research and teaching teams, and is able to inspire and engage colleagues, and share knowledge and networks.

Remuneration and information

The position is placed in government pay scale position code 1352 Postdoctoral Fellow, wage framework 24 (salary grade 60) NOK 524200.

A compulsory contribution of 2 % is made to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
