About the position

The Faculty of Landscape and Society announces a two-year postdoctoral position (with a possible extension up to three years, provided extra funding) at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning as a part of the European project: “Public Space in European Social Housing”, part of the European HERA joint research programme “Public Spaces: Culture and Integration in Europe”.

The main aim of the project is to investigate how European social housing estates’ shared spaces might function as a resource for integration. The project focuses on social housing areas, as these are often problematized as places of segregation and disintegration in European cities.

The working hypothesis of the project is that public spaces on social housing estates throughout Europe are a prime locus of cultural encounter and therefore constitute a unique potential resource for European integration. The project includes Danish, Italian and Swiss partners.

We seek a person with an interest in and a knowledge of the relationship between the social as well as physical aspects of public space. Experience or interest in qualitative research methods is desirable.

Main tasks

The successful applicant will work in the Norwegian delegation of the project, as well as taking part in the wider, cross-national research agenda. Potential candidates should obtain the full project description by contacting the persons mentioned below.

Acdemic Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD degree, or have a PhD thesis accepted for defence, in urban and regional planning, architecture, landscape architecture, social sciences or the humanities with a relevant topic for studying public space and social integration. Appointment to the position is conditional on the candidate having successfully defended the PhD thesis.

It is desirable that applicants have skills in the dissemination of research findings.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research group both within the project as well as at NMBU. It is therefore of high importance that applicants have good skills in cooperation and collaboration in research teams, and are able to inspire and engage colleagues, and share knowledge and networks.

It is an advantage for applicants to be able to communicate in Norwegian, regarding both fieldwork and administrative elements of the project.

The position is placed in government pay scale position code 1352 Postdoctoral Fellow, wage framework 24 (salary grade 60)NOK 524200.
