About the position
1-2 fixed-term 100 % positions are available at the Department of Global Development and Planning, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Agder as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow, for a period of 2 years, alternatively 3 or 4 years including teaching responsibilities. The position is located at Campus Kristiansand. The starting date is negotiable with the Faculty.
The department has an excellent research environment and offers two bachelor’s programmes; one in Development Studies, the other in Planning and Communication. It also offers a master’s programme in Global Development and Planning, with two different specialisations, as well as a PhD programme.
Responsibilities
The objective of the two- year post-doc position is research and research dissemination. There is no fixed teaching incorporated in the position, but the candidate is expected to provide lectures in courses in his/her field of speciality, contribute to the department’s research seminars and contribute to the overall administrative work of the research cluster to which the candidate will be affiliated. A post-doctoral research position should function as an intermediate step in the research career following the completion of a PhD degree and preceding a faculty position in a university. For this reason, the department is committed to offering a suitable environment and activities that allow the post-doctoral researcher to 1) consolidate her/his research maturity, 2) develop teaching and advising skills and 3) build a resume that facilities her/his incorporation into the academia.
Required qualifications
To be regarded as an eligible applicant, the candidates must have a doctoral degree from a Norwegian or accredited foreign university in a relevant subject area within the social sciences or humanities. However, as some of the research clusters are cross-disciplinary, potential candidates with a background in other disciplines may be considered, based on the overall topic and its relevance for the department. Potential applicants must have had their theses approved by the time of the application deadline. It is desirable that the applicant has defended his/her doctoral thesis within the last five years.
International publishing, good international networks and experience from international cooperation will be emphasised. The project description must highlight the relevance of the project to existing research at the department and clearly related to core topics within the department’s research clusters. Proposals that potentially bridge research clusters are particularly welcomed. Emphasis will be placed upon the project description. The appointed candidate must be able to contribute to the long-term development of the Department’s research, have strong academic credentials, as well as written and spoken English proficiency

The position is remunerated according to the State Salary Scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1352, NOK 504.700-573.100 gross salary per year. Higher salary grades may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
