The Faculty of Humanities, Sports and Eductaional Science have a vacancy for a temporary position as Ph.D. Research Fellow in politics and sports/outdoor life

About the position

The Faculty of Humanities, Sports and Eductaional Science has a vacancy for a 100% position as Ph.D. Research Fellow in politics and sport/outdoor life.

The position is located at the Department of Sports, Physical Education and Outdoor Studies and reports to the Head of Department. The place of employment is Bø in Telemark.

The employment period will be three years of full time with no teaching obligations, and there is a premise for employment that the Ph.D. Research Fellow is enrolled in USN’s Ph.D. program in Culture Studies within three months of accession in the position.

About the PhD-project

The theme for the research project is the relationship between politics and sports/outdoor life. Based on this, the Ph.D. research fellow should outline a more specific topic area for his or her doctoral project. It can, for example, be the relationship between politics, sports and facilities; recent political signals about sports and physical activity and consequences for the population's activity habits; the relationship between politics and administration in the planning and facilitation of physical activity and sports in the population; the population's experience of the authorities' regulation of their voluntary physical and sporting development and the like. Potential applicants must themselves define their topic within this relatively broad problem area. However, the project must be related to the areas of cultural understanding and / or cultural policy, as described in the Ph.D. program for cultural studies. Applicants are asked to formulate a project description in which more precise and limited issues, as well as theoretical and methodological choices, are presented and justified.

Qualifications

Applicants to the Ph.D. position must have a Master’s degree (120 ECTS) equivalent higher education qualifications in outdoor life studies, physical eduction, sports cultural studies, sociology, political science or similar.The degree must be accomplished before application deadline.

The candidate must have the ability to work independently and at the same time have the motivation to share knowledge and take part in team work. Personal suitability for the post will be emphasised.

It is a requirement that the successful applicant is granted admission to the university’s doctoral programme in Culture Studies within three months of accession in the position. For admission to the Programme the wighted average grade is B or higher is usually required.

Salary

PhD Research Fellow (code 1017): NOK 491 200 a year. Further promotion will be based on time served in the position.

A statutory contribution to the state pension plan will be deducted from the employee’s salary.

Other information

The Academic Appointments Board for PhD Research Fellowships is responsible for the appointment. An expert assessment of applicants will be carried out. The candidates deemed best qualified will be invited to an interview.
