The Department of Political Science is a part of the Faculty of Social Sciences and conducts research, teaching and dissemination. The Department currently has 33 permanent academic staff members, 13 research fellows conducting PhDs, six postdoctoral fellows and ten administrative employees. About 1100 students are currently enrolled in Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD study programmes in political science, as well as the interdisciplinary Bachelor’s degree programmes in International Studies and Public Administration and Leadership, and the Master’s degree programme in Peace and Conflict Studies. The department is the host of C-REX Center for Research on Extremism.

Professor Målfrid Braut-Hegghammer is recruiting a research assistant (enrolled as a master student, or a recent graduate) to provide research assistance and basic administrative support. The tasks will include managing, processing and analyzing historical source materials, creating active citation archives, preparing graphs using R, as well as administrative tasks. The position is 40%, but a higher percentage may be considered for the right candidate. The initial contract is for 12 months but can be extended.

Qualification requirements

  • The candidate must be enrolled as a master student, or a recent graduate
  • The candidate must be fluent in English and should be able to work in Norwegian
  • Administrative or organizational experiences is desirable
  • Prior experience with research assistance is highly desirable.

Formal regulations

The total period of employment in a position as a scientific assistant may not exceed two years and the position may not be filled by persons who have previously been employed in a research fellow position or have acquired equivalent competence. See regulations on employment conditions for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, research fellow, research assistant and specialist candidate.
