Postdoctoral fellow / Researcher in antibody biology and design
Deadline: 22.03.2023
Universitetet i Oslo
The University of Oslo is Norway’s oldest and highest ranked educational and research institution, with 28 000 students and 7000 employees. With its broad range of academic disciplines and internationally recognised research communities, UiO is an important contributor to society.
The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.
Job description
Applicants are invited for a two year position as Postdoctoral Fellow in antibody biology and design to be based at the Laboratory of Adaptive Immunity and Homeostasis, Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo. The position is also open for candidates who have completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellow period at UiO, and these candidates will be evaluated for a two year position as a Researcher (SKO 1109).
The position is part of a project funded by the Norwegian Cancer Society, which is located in the research group of Professor Jan Terje Andersen, who is the head of the Laboratory of Adaptive Immunity and Homeostasis at Department of Immunology and Department of Pharmacology, Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine.
More about the position
The successful candidate will join a highly integrated and motivated team with diverse skills and expertise across molecular biology and immunology. We seek a motivated, creative and energetic candidate that is expected to take active part in the research cooperation within the project. The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.
This particular project relates to studies of antibody biology and engineering in the context of approaches that aim to combat cancer, and will provide a unique opportunity to pursue basic research combined with development of innovative approaches to treat cancer in model systems. The candidate will be part of a collaborative project between the Laboratory of Adaptive Immunity and Homeostasis and international partners.
The Laboratory of Adaptive Immunity and Homeostasis uses multi-disciplinary approaches to address fundamental questions in health. One particular focus is studies of the cellular processes and molecular interplay underlying the functions of the two most abundant proteins in blood, albumin and antibodies. Such knowledge offers opportunities for development of novel concepts for tailored design of antibody and albumin based biomedical technologies with altered pharmacokinetics and biodistribution. The laboratory has an eye on translational research, is highly innovative and is collaborating extensively with biotech and pharmaceutical companies. The head of the laboratory has obtained the Fridtjof Nansen Prize for Early Career Achievements, Oslo University Hospital Early Career Award, and is an alumni of The Young Academy of Norway.
The laboratory is part of the new Centre of Excellence called Precision Immunotherapy Alliance (PRIMA), and is part of UiO FOCIS Centre of Excellence, which aims to develop and support research activities on clinical immunology in Oslo, and has a Visiting Professor Program and a Guest Lecturer Program.
Qualification requirements
- Applicants must hold a PhD (or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree) in immunology, cancer research or related subjects, with a strong background in biomedicine or immunology. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defence of the doctoral thesis being approved.
- Highly motivated and structured candidate with background in molecular biology or immunology.
- Proven knowledge of molecular and cell biology techniques, such as techniques for production of recombinant proteins and assays for evaluation of antibody binding and transport properties.
- Candidates must have strong proficiency in verbal and written English.
The following qualifications will count in the assessment of the applicants:
- Knowledge in cellular biology, cancer research and antibody biology are advantageous.
We offer
- Salary NOK 544 400 – 626 300 per annum depending on qualifications in position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow (position code 1352)
- Salary NOK 604 400 – 689 100 per annum depending on qualifications in position as Researcher (position code 1109)
