More about the position

The digital transformation of modern society effects all areas of our daily life. This includes also health services for which security and privacy concerns are especially relevant. Industrial nations have spent huge amount of money and effort to build secure eHealth infrastructures. However, still many shortcomings and weaknesses can be observed. This is even more relevant for developing countries, where eHealth is becoming more and more important, but, due to limited resources, security and privacy aspects are very often neglected.

The successful candidate for this PhD fellowship position will contribute to research in the field of privacy and security of eHealth system.

The fellowship position is located at the Department of Informatics, and specifically in the research group for “Digital Security” (SEC). The SEC group works on different topics in the area of information security including cyber threat intelligence, privacy and cryptography, and hosts the UiO Ethical Hacking Team. The PhD fellowship will be part of a collaboration with the research group “Information Systems” (IS). The IS group coordinates the development of the open source eHealth platform DHIS2, and is involved in a range of implementation activities in the global south. Both groups manage several research projects with national and international partners from both industry and academia. We have a dynamic and interactive working environment with relatively good gender balance, consisting of multiple PhD and Post Doc researchers in addition to full-time and part-time staff.

Only citizens from European countries and NATO countries are eligible to be hired for this position and therefore only applicants with citizenships from the aforementionted countries can apply for this position. The reason for this is that security research may involve collaboration with defense and national security organizations where security clearance may be needed.
