A Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in the UiO:Nordic funded Research Group Futuring Sustainable Nordic Business Models (FuturingNordics) is available at the University of Oslo, Department of Private Law. Futuring Nordics is a part of the Research Group Companies, Markets and Sustainability.

More about the position

The position is for a period of 3 years. There is a 10 % component of the position that is devoted to teaching and administrative duties.

The aim of Futuring Sustainable Nordic Business Models is to address the great challenges of globalization, digitalization, and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to Nordic businesses through:

(i) an interdisciplinary analysis of the development and transformation of Nordic business models in the era of globalization and digitalization,

(ii) an inquiry into the possibilities and challenges globalization, digitalization and the SDGs create for Nordic business models today, and

(iii) the proposition of policies for innovating Nordic business models for sustainability.

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will strengthen Futuring Nordics’ and Research Group Companies Markets and Sustainability’s multidisciplinary expertise,through their research and through the supervision of junior researchers.

As Futuring Nordics’ research topics require cooperation with Nordic experts from all five countries, especially in law, history, economics, business management, and Nordic exceptionalism, the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow’s knowledge will be within one or several of these fields.

Qualification requirements

PhD or equivalent academic qualifications with a specialization in any of the disciplines relevant to Futuring Nordics’ research areas, including law. We will consider applications both from candidates wishing to do interdisciplinary research and those wishing to do their work within one discipline.

The working language of Futuring Nordics is English and candidates should have an excellent command of English, written and spoken.

Publications must be written in English. A good command of a Scandinavian language, alternatively willingness to learn during the fellowship period, is an advantage for working at the Faculty in Oslo, but is not a condition for this position. Knowledge of other languages spoken in the Nordic countries is an asset.

The doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. For candidates who have not publicly defended their PhD thesis, appointment will be dependent on the approval of the doctoral thesis for defense. The public defense must be approved before the position is taken up.

  • Personal suitability and motivation for the position.
  • For the successful candidate, the postdoctoral project will be shaped through discussions with Futuring Nordics leadership. The projec proposal is nevertheless important in the assessment of the applications, to see which research questions the candidate selects, which methodology is chosen, and the candidate’s understanding of and knowledge within the chosen topic.
