The position

A position as Postdoctoral Fellow is available at the Center for Lifespan Changes in Brain and Cognition (LCBC), at the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo. This position will fit a highly talented candidate with interests in functional neuroimaging and electrophysiology.

The research center

The goal of LCBC is to understand brain and cognitive changes and how to optimize them through the entire lifespan. LCBC is an active multi-disciplinary research center, with a staff of about 25 full time positions, including six faculty professors/ researchers, several PostDocs and PhD candidates, several programmers/engineers and full-time RAs, extensive supporting personnel and several affiliated international researchers. LCBC has excellent research infrastructure, including access to a 3T Siemens Prisma, PET and EEG, and neuropsychological and somatic test facilities.

English is the language of the center. LCBC coordinates a large H2020 EU-project and has obtained four grants from the European Research Council (ERC). Further funding comes from the Norwegian Research Council, the National Health Association, the Thon foundation and the University of Oslo. More about the position

The successful applicant will be working on uni- and multivariate analyses of high-quality task-related fMRI data acquired at our Siemens Prisma 3T MRI scanner as well as electrophysiology data. Topics currently under investigation in our lab cover cognitive functions during episodic memory operations, attention as well as mechanisms subserving spatial navigation and spatial working memory. Examples of current analyses approaches involve graph theoretical investigations of task-based functional connectivity, entorhinal grid code analyses, and dynamic pattern classification of memory consolidation activity during rest.

Common to most projects is a large-N lifespan approach, and longitudinal follow-ups of participants. The candidate will also be involved in experiments using concurrent EEG and fMRI. While our lab is software-agnostic, we strongly believe in the superiority of surface-based analyses and in the importance of contributing to open science initiatives and tools, such as BIDS and fmriprep.

LCBC has a well-functioning data management infrastructure, thus the successful applicant can expect to be able to focus on the analysis and publication part of the scientific process. Furthermore, while the main focus of the position is task-based EEG and fMRI analysis, LCBC has a long history of multi-modal integrative approaches, and the candidate will be able to take advantage of our large longitudinal DWI/sMRI/PET-datasets.

The successful applicant will have to document a strong background in EEG and/ or fMRI-analysis but will of course be assisted by a competent team of engineers and statisticians. The candidate will collaborate closely with other senior and junior researchers, as well as PhD students and research assistants. In addition, the candidate is expected to take part in LCBCs extensive network of international collaborations.

The position is financed by the Norwegian Research Council (NFR), and linked to the project The Missing Link of Episodic Memory Decline in Aging: The Role of Inefficient Systems Consolidation. The project is in the forefront of international research on the neuroscience of memory, development and aging.

Qualifications

• A PhD degree or similar in psychology, cognitive neuroscience or a related field
• Good skills in EEG and/ or functional neuroimaging
• Experience with experimental psychology, memory and aging research will
• constitute advantages, but is not required, and can be outweighed by other expertise
• Excellent English communication skills, orally and in writing

In assessing applications, particular emphasis will be placed upon the quality of the candidate's academic qualifications. Interviews with selected candidates may be arranged where the applicant's personal prerequisites and cooperative skills will be emphasized
