Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture (FBA) educates people with the aim of promoting sustainable and innovative development to meet global challenges in food production, climate and environment. About the position
Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture (FBA), Nord University, Steinkjer Norway, invites applications for a permanent 50% position as professor in Terrestrial Ecology.
We seek a candidate to strengthen the existing research foci of the Terrestrial Ecology Unit at Steinkjer. The candidate must have a track record of high-impact research in population ecology, conservation and management of bird and mammal populations, preferably also in relation to hunting and other forms for natural resource management. It is advantageous for the candidate to demonstrate an interest and document skills in the statistical analysis of large datasets, including data from citizens science programs. We seek a candidate who brings with them an established network of contacts in both scientific, management and policy environments.
The successful candidate must be able to contribute to teaching at both bachelor, master and potentially also PhD level in the Nature Management programmes at Steinkjer, ideally with a demonstrated ability to help develop master programmes. Contribution to teaching at the bachelor program requires mastery of a Scandinavian language. The candidate must have successfully supervised several masters students and ideally have experience with doctoral student supervision.
Nord University faculties are distributed over several campuses, so co-operation between faculty regardless of geographical location is important. The position may involve tasks at Nord University’s other campuses.
Duties and responsibilities
The position entails teaching and supervision at all levels
Initiating and developing interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with colleagues at the Faculty
Facilitating of research projects with national and international partners
Participation in the development of externally funded research projects is expected, as well as furthering research collaborations with national and international partners.
It is assumed that the appointee will contribute to the development of the academic community in the faculty, together with other colleagues.
Qualification requirements
Professor
Appointment at the rank of professor will be based on documented research and teaching competence within applied terrestrial ecology.
The qualification requirement for professor is an academic level in accordance with international standards in the applicable subject area. When assessing candidates for a professorship, the committee will use the national criteria for professor promotion, cf. note from UHR Coordination of the processes for professor promotion in MNT subjects.
Adequate professional educational competence is a requirement for this position. In addition to the basic skills in respect of the planning, implementation, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision which apply the position of an associate professor, applicants must provide documentary proof of the following: quality development in teaching and supervision, broad supervisory experience and joint professional development of educational quality. Due to an amendment in Regulations from 1 September 2019, Nord University have implemented supplementary provisions on educational competence. Good oral and written presentation skills in English and Norwegian (or possibly another Scandinavian language)

The position is compensated according to government regulations, LPL 17.510, code 1013 Professor. Salary by agreement.
