A 100% position as Post-doctoral fellowship in statistical genetics for 3 years is available.

The successful applicant will be working on well-defined projects in the area of genetic epidemiology funded by the Norwegian Research Council. Depending on the applicant’s level of experience, they will help develop and/or apply statistical genetics approaches to investigate the possible existence of transgenerational effects on human phenotypes, using cohorts such as the Norwegian HUNT cohort (which has a large number of parent-offspring pairs) and UK Biobank.

The postdoctoral research fellow will have their primary workplace at the University of Oslo, with the possibility of a research stay at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia working in world renowned Professor David Evans’ laboratory. Professor Evans’ lab is also co-located with Peter Visscher, Naomi Wray and the Program for Complex Trait Genetics.

The advertised project are fundamentally quantitative and computer-based, and so evidence of aptitude and skill in these areas is essential. Our ideal candidate will have knowledge and keen interest in genetics, epidemiology, statistics, unix and shell scripting, and statistical software such as R.

More about the position

• The post-doctoral fellow will work in a multidisciplinary team with clinicians as well as with experts in statistics, big data analysis and computer science.
• The research will involve statistical genetics, bioinformatics, and novel biostatistical methods.
• The goal is to study the possible existence of transgenerational genetic effects on human phenotypes using large cohorts such as the Norwegian HUNT cohort and UK Biobank.
• The work will involve development and application of new statistical methods.
• The candidate is expected to collaborate closely with existing researcher, as well as PhD students to be recruited as part of this project.

The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.

Qualification requirements

• with a PhD from a wide range of backgrounds including, but not limited to: epidemiology, statistics, genetics, mathematics, computer science, bioinformatics, econometrics, psychology, molecular biology and physics
• is ambitious and highly motivated for pursuing a career in science

• has a strong command of English
