Postdoctoral Research Fellow position
The Faculty of Medicine, Department of Biomedicine, invites applications for a full-time position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a period of three(3) years. Subject to the availability of additional funding, the appointment may be extended to four (4) years.
The position is part of the project ” eHACS”, financed by the Research Council of Norway.
The successful candidate will join the eHACS project, and contribute to the experimental evaluation of the designed compounds for activity against their targets (FabF, PanK, and NMT) and to determine crystal structures of protein-ligand complexes to inform compound design.
The postdoc will be part of the Brenk lab which conducts research in the area of structure-based drug design.
About the project/work tasks:
Protein expression and purification
Determination of ligand binding using label-free biophysical methods
Determination of enzyme activities using biochemical methods
Determination of crystal structures of target-ligand complexes
Analysis of target-ligand structures to inform compound design
Qualifications and personal qualities:
The applicant must hold a Norwegian PhD or an equivalent degree within structural biology or have the doctoral thesis submitted prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded at the latest within 5 months after the closing date for applications.
Experience with using label-free biophysical methods (e.g. BLI, SPR, or GCI) to determine binding of small molecules to proteins is required.
Experience with structure determination of protein-ligand complexes in a structure-based drug design context is required
Experience with protein expression and purification of at least one of the target proteins (FabF, PanK or NMT) is required.
The successful candidate needs to be able to work independently and in a structured manner, and needs to have the ability to cooperate with others
Proficiency in both written and oral English is required.
Experience with biochemical activity assays is an advantage.
The applicant’s personal suitability for the position is a significant factor in the evaluation.
Special Requirements for the Position
The University of Bergen is subjected to the regulations governing the Norwegian export control system. These regulations will be applied in the assessment and processing of the applications.
About the position of postdoctoral research fellow:
The position of postdoctoral research fellow is a fixed-term appointment with the primary objective of qualifying the appointee for work in top academic positions. The fixed-term period for this position is... years (usually four years). Individuals may not be hired for more than one fixed-term period as a postdoctoral research fellow at the same institution.
Upon appointment, applicants must submit a project proposal for the qualifying work including a work schedule. For postdoctoral research fellow positions associated with externally financed projects, the completion of the project proposal for the qualifying work will take place in consultation with the project/centre manager. It is a requirement that the project is completed in the course of the period of employment.
